The experienced Greek tactician Pavlos Dermitzakis joins the Shers on a two-year contract, bringing a proven record of promotions, player development, and long-term success.
Kolkata, July 13: Punjab FC found their leader, bringing in UEFA Pro Licence coach Pavlos Dermitzakis, who has vast experience in the footballing field. The Greek coach joined the Shers on a two-year contract from Panionios FC.
Before his 20-year coaching career, the coach played for more than a decade as a forward, scoring over 200 goals in more than 500 appearances.
Throughout his coaching career, Pavlos Dermitzakis has built a reputation for achieving success with clubs across Greece. He guided Atsalenios and GS Diagoras 1905 to promotion while maintaining impressive unbeaten home records. He later managed top-flight clubs including PAOK, Asteras Tripolis, OFI Crete, and Panthrakikos. At Veria 1960, he led the team to back-to-back North Group titles in Greece’s second division, before guiding Panserraikos FC back to the Greek Super League after a 12-year absence, highlighting his ability to build competitive teams and deliver results.
One of the biggest highlights of Dermitzakis’ career is his ability to develop teams and earn promotions, actually this is what he is doing from the last two decades. His experience of working at every level of Greek football, from the lower divisions to the top flight, along with his focus on player development, makes him a strong fit for Punjab FC’s vision of nurturing young Indian talent while competing at the highest level.
Dermitzakis made it clear that Punjab FC’s long-term vision was the biggest reason behind his decision to join the club. Rather than chasing immediate success, he appreciated the focus on developing young Indian players and building a team for the future. It also reflects his own coaching philosophy, having built competitive teams and improved players throughout his career. His approach and Punjab FC’s vision seem to align well, making it a partnership built on long-term growth rather than short-term results.
After signing Dermitzakis said to the club media
“What attracted me most was the vision of the club. Punjab FC is not just focused on results today, but on building something that can be successful for many years. The emphasis on developing young Indian players, combined with the ambition to compete at the highest level, made this a very exciting opportunity. I believe my experience of building competitive teams and helping players improve fits well with the direction the club is taking. I am excited to get started with the team.”
With the 2026–27 season approaching, Punjab FC will hope to match up the same rhythm with Dermitzakis’s approach, which can help the Shers take the next step and build a strong campaign.
