Scottish striker Lee Erwin joins Mohun Bagan SG on a one-year contract, adding experience, physicality and finishing ability to the Mariners’ attack.
Kolkata, August 30: Mohun Bagan Super Giant have strengthened their attacking unit with the signing of Scottish striker Lee Harry Erwin, who has joined the Mariners on a one-year contract. The 32-year-old is set to arrive in Kolkata on Monday night and will join the team’s training session from Tuesday.
Erwin is primarily a box striker and is known for his clinical finishing, physical presence and ability to bring himself into dangerous positions inside the box. His height also makes him an added threat during set-pieces, while his experience of playing across different leagues and countries could bring another dimension to Mohun Bagan SG’s attack.
Erwin began his senior career with Scottish side Motherwell before making a move to Leeds United. He has since played for several clubs across Scotland, England and abroad, including Kilmarnock, Bury FC, Tractor FC, Haka, Al-Ahed and HJK Helsinki. He also represented Scotland at youth (U17, U18, U19) international level.
Erwin’s career also includes a spell with English giants Leeds United, whom he joined from Motherwell in June 2015 on a three-year deal. At the time, Leeds were playing in the Championship, England’s second tier, following their previous stint in the Premier League.
The striker arrives at Mohun Bagan after spending the previous season with Jordanian club Al-Faisaly. His career has also taken him across Asia, giving him experience of different styles and conditions of football.
For head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis, Erwin’s arrival adds more options to the attacking department as the Mariners continue to build their squad ahead of the new campaign. His ability to hold up the ball, compete physically with defenders and finish chances inside the box could prove important for Mohun Bagan SG.
Speaking after completing his move, Erwin revealed that he had offers from several ISL clubs but chose Mohun Bagan because of the club’s stature and history.
“I will be playing in India for the first time. I had offers from quite a few ISL clubs, but Mohun Bagan is the biggest club in the country, so I accepted their offer and decided to come here.” said Erwin.
The Scottish striker also spoke about the feedback he received from friends who have played in India and the reputation Mohun Bagan have built.
Erwin said the club’s professionalism, philosophy, success and tradition were among the major reasons behind his decision to join the Mariners. The passion of the supporters and the love for the green-and-maroon jersey also played a role in his choice.
Having already been training regularly, Erwin is now looking forward to settling into his new surroundings and getting started with his new teammates. His target is clear, to use his experience to help Mohun Bagan SG compete for and win trophies.
Mohun Bagan SG just ended up their Durand Cup 2026 campaign as a runner-up, and now set to regroup. With the Scottish striker now set to join training from Tuesday, the Mariners have added another experienced attacking option to their squad ahead of the new season.
