Kolkata, July 14: Mohammedan Sporting Club returned to winning ways after a long ten months. The Black and White Brigade kicked off their Calcutta Football League 2026 campaign with a 3-1 win over NBP Rainbow at the Mohammedan Ground on Tuesday afternoon. Coming from behind with three second-half goals, Mehrajuddin Wadoo’s balanced squad made a winning start to the new season.
Mohammedan started the game with attacking intent but conceded through a quick counter-attack. In the 13th minute, Israfil’s cross found Arpan Polley, who tried to clear the ball, but due to a miscommunication it almost went into the net. However, Rainbow captain Akash Mukherjee made a goal-line save.
Later, with a fast attack, Fardin’s long-range shot almost found the net, but Rainbow goalkeeper Dipanjan Debnath made the save. Soon after, Rainbow found the breakthrough. In the 36th minute, Lalremruata delivered the ball from the right side of the box, and Jojo slotted it into the net to give Rainbow a 1-0 lead.

In the last minute of added time, Mohammedan got a chance to equalise. Joseph Justin sent in a cross from the right, which Adison collected near the goal line before attempting a shot, but Rainbow goalkeeper Dipanjan saved it.
The second half resumed with the same rhythm. In the 66th minute, Adison cut inside from the right and unleashed a shot, but Dipanjan once again stood tall. Within three minutes, Mohammedan found their equaliser. The home side earned a free-kick on the right flank, and Manotosh delivered the ball into the box. Dipanjan misjudged the flight of the ball, but Jewel did not, heading it into the net to bring his team level.

In the 79th minute, Mohammedan took a 2-1 lead through Fardin. Receiving a lofted ball from the left, Adison headed it down to Fardin, who headed it into the net.

In the final minute of regulation time, Israfil Dewan sealed the 3-1 victory. Adison chased down a loose ball and kept it in play before entering the box. From the left, he minus it for Israfil, who made no mistake in putting the ball into the net.

Although Adison Singh did not get on the scoresheet, he was the most influential player for the Black and White Brigade. He constantly created attacking pressure, produced several chances, and played a key role with two assists. The victory marked a positive start to Mohammedan Sporting Club’s CFL 2026 campaign and will give Mehrajuddin Wadoo’s side plenty of confidence heading into the matches ahead.
