Samir Zeljkovic Joins Mohun Bagan SG: Big Boost as Versatile Defender Signs 2-Year Contract

Kolkata, June 11: As soon as the season ended and the new one is about to begin, Mohun Bagan SG started preparing their squad. From Punjab FC, Samir Zeljkovic has signed for Mohun Bagan SG on a two-year deal. The 28-year-old Bosnian defender had a watchful campaign with Punjab FC in the previous season.

In the 2025-26 season, Zeljkovic joined Punjab FC for the Indian Super League from Serbian club Radnički 1923. He is a defender, but can play as a centre-back and in defensive midfield too. With a watchful campaign, he made full appearances for the Shers, starting 10 matches and contributing in attack with five goal involvements, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists.

Also, the 6-foot-tall defender served his national team duty in 2020 for Bosnia and Herzegovina, featuring in friendlies and the UEFA Nations League. After all the stats and his previous performances in India, the defender got called by the giant Indian club Mohun Bagan SG to blend his experience and abilities into their squad for the upcoming season’s competitions.

Zeljkovic’s first words as a Mohun Bagan SG player reflect both respect and ambition. Having experienced the atmosphere at the Salt Lake Stadium as an opposition player, he acknowledged the club’s rich legacy and passionate supporters. At the same time, he shows desire to win every possible trophy. With a strong winning mentality, he is ready to contribute to the club’s continued success.

Speaking to the club’s media Zeljkovic said

“Ever since I came to play in India, I have heard about the consistent success of Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Playing at the Yuba Bharati in the ISL wearing the opposing team’s jersey, I have witnessed the passion and love the Mohun Bagan members and supporters have for the club. I am overwhelmed and thrilled to get the opportunity to represent such a historic club with over a century of rich legacy. The green-and-maroon supporters have seen me play during my time with Punjab FC.

Mohun Bagan is the best club in the country. I promise that I will play even better when I take the field alongside my teammates in that successful squad. I am coming to play in Kolkata with the mental preparation to become champions. I want to win all the trophies, not just the ISL.”

As the Mariners prepare for another challenging season, with his experience, versatility, and winning mindset, Zeljkovic arrives as a valuable addition to Mohun Bagan SG and will be expected to play a key role in the club’s pursuit of silverware across all competitions.
