Brison Fernandes Joins Chennaiyin FC After Explosive FC Goa Exit

The homegrown FC Goa star Brison Fernandes begins a new chapter with Chennaiyin FC after a transfer that was overshadowed by a public contractual dispute.

Kolkata, July 10: After weeks of speculation, FC Goa’s own Brison Fernandes has completed his move to Chennaiyin FC ahead of the new season. Brison was promoted to FC Goa’s senior team in 2021 after progressing through the club’s youth ranks and went on to be part of several memorable campaigns with the Gaurs.

Brison first joined FC Goa’s U16 team during a difficult phase in his career. He went on to play in the Goa Pro League and the Reliance Development League, where he emerged as one of the club’s brightest talents. He later made history by becoming the only Indian player to score in the AFC Champions League Two. Even more special, he scored the goal at FC Goa’s home ground against his idol Cristiano Ronaldo’s club, Al Nassr.

Brison had earlier shared his journey, speaking about the struggles he and his family faced, the unwavering support of his parents, to become a part of FC Goa, and how proud he was to represent his hometown club, FC Goa, as from his childhood days he wished to become a footballer.

During his senior career with FC Goa, the 25 year old versatile left winger, who was also deployed as a midfielder, made 66 appearances, scored 12 goals, and provided several assists for the club. In the previous ISL season, he started 10 matches, scoring one goal and registering two assists. And Brison Fernandes is appearing as one of important for the national side also.

However, the manner in which the transfer unfolded became complicated, with accusations emerging along the way. FC Goa appeared deeply disappointed as they parted ways with one of their brightest talents.

However, the transfer took a controversial turn after FC Goa released a strongly worded statement regarding Brison Fernandes’ departure. The club claimed they had made multiple improved contract offers to retain the winger, but alleged that his agent used those offers to approach other clubs and create a bidding war.

FC Goa also stated that they continued to support Brison during his injury recovery, even after his contract had expired, and felt that the player and his representatives did not reciprocate that goodwill. While clarifying that they had no issues with Brison’s new club, FC Goa maintained that they were disappointed with the manner in which the negotiations were handled and even said they were prepared to make their communication records public if their claims were disputed.

Despite the controversy surrounding his departure, Brison Fernandes leaves FC Goa as one of the club’s most successful homegrown talents. As he embarks on a new challenge with Chennaiyin FC, both player and club will look to move forward from a partnership that produced many memorable moments.
