Former East Bengal FC star Miguel Figueira joins Mohun Bagan SG on a two-year deal after a Golden Ball-winning season, targeting more trophies in 2026–27.
Kolkata, July 10: From one side of the Kolkata rivalry to the other, Miguel Figueira’s next chapter in Green and Maroon begins. The former East Bengal FC Golden Ball winner joined Mohun Bagan SG in the most talked-about transfer of the season, with two years of contract.
Within months of talks, when the season had just ended, the transfer was roaming around the Maidan, and this afternoon Mohun Bagan SG officially confirmed his arrival at the club. A move that won’t go unnoticed in the Kolkata Maidan.
In the 2025–26 season, Miguel joined East Bengal FC from neighbouring club Bashundhara Kings. Within just 19 appearances in a single season, he became the heartthrob of the Red and Gold Brigade. He contributed 10 goals and helped the club win a major trophy.
In the Indian Super League, the midfielder scored two goals and provided five assists in 12 appearances, and played the crucial role in ending East Bengal FC’s 22-year wait for the nation’s top league title, which led to him winning the Golden Ball.
Now, for the upcoming season, he will wear the Green and Maroon colours, and from the Durand Cup 2026, Miguel expected to be seen in the new jersey.
Miguel’s words reflected his ambition and the thought behind the move. Calling Mohun Bagan Super Giant the best club in the country, he made it clear that his target is to win trophies. He also highlighted his preference for creating goals rather than just scoring them, while expressing his excitement about forming a partnership with Jamie Maclaren. His words suggest that he is ready to embrace the expectations that come with wearing the Green and Maroon jersey.
Miguel also highlighted the quality already present in Mohun Bagan SG’s squad. By praising the club’s strong Indian core and specially mentioning Alberto Rodriguez as one of the best defenders in the ISL, he showed his respect for his new teammates. Having faced Alberto in the Kolkata Derby, Miguel expressed that he is excited to be part of a squad filled with quality and believes the team has everything needed to compete for trophies this season.
After joining Miguel Figueira said to the club media, “Mohun Bagan supporters are very passionate and lively, much like Brazilian supporters. Having played in Kolkata for a year, I have seen the love the Green-and-Maroon supporters have for the team. They fill the galleries with expectations and emotions. For them, nothing matters more than winning matches and lifting trophies and they are prepared to give everything for that dream. I thrive under that expectation to become champions, it’s a kind of pressure I genuinely enjoy. I’m eagerly awaiting the opportunity to don the Green-and-Maroon jersey. The thought of stepping onto the pitch in those colours, in front of the finest supporters of the country’s best club, is something that excites me tremendously.”
With proven quality, a winning mentality and the experience of shining on the other side of the Kolkata rivalry, Miguel now begins a new challenge in Green and Maroon. As Mohun Bagan prepare for another trophy-filled campaign, all eyes will be on how the former East Bengal star writes the next chapter of his journey in in Indian football.
