Portuguese defender Sandro Embalo joins the Blues on a free transfer, bringing European and Asian experience ahead of Pep Munoz’s first full season.
Kolkata, July 16: Bengaluru FC, ahead of the new season, strengthened their defensive line by signing Sandro Embalo from Indonesian club PSBS Biak. The 30-year-old centre-back joined the Blues on a free transfer. The Portuguese defender can also play as a left-back or a defensive midfielder. Having played for several clubs in Portugal and all over many countries, Embalo has now come to India to represent the Blues.
After spending the last two seasons in Indonesia’s BRI Super League with Persita Tangerang and PSBS Biak, Sandro Embalo has joined Bengaluru FC. Last season, he made 24 appearances in 34 league matches for PSBS Biak, scoring one goal and providing one assist. Having developed through the youth systems of Atletico Madrid, Sporting CP, SC Braga, and Genoa, the Portuguese defender brings quality, versatility, and international experience to the Blues.
With Pep Munoz set to begin his first full campaign as Bengaluru FC head coach, he expressed confidence that Embalo will be an important addition to the team. Welcoming the club’s new signing, Bengaluru FC head coach said the club is delighted to have Sandro on board. He believes the Portuguese defender’s experience of playing in different leagues across Europe and Asia will add strength to the squad and help the Blues achieve their targets in the upcoming season.
The Portuguese defender arrives in Bengaluru with a clear idea of what the club represents. Familiar with the Blue’s reputation and their passionate supporters, Embalo is now ready to begin his journey in Indian football. “It’s a new experience playing in India, one that I am really looking forward to. I’ve heard a lot about the club, the city and the fans, and I cannot wait to get started,” said Embalo to the club media.
