Kolkata, July 15: East Bengal FC sealed their second victory of CFL 2026 with a 5–1 win over newly promoted club Bidhannagar Municipal Sports Academy at the East Bengal Ground on Wednesday afternoon. PV Vishnu completed his hat-trick in the first half, while the other two goals came from an own goal and Bijoy Murmu.
Early in the game, both teams made a breakthrough. Within 10 minutes, PV Vishnu put East Bengal FC ahead. But within four minutes, the young side came back as Sumit Majumder equalised the score for Bidhannagar Municipal Sports Academy.
In the 26th minute, with individual brilliance from a free-kick, Vishnu put East Bengal 2–1 ahead. However, BMS Academy’s own mistake made the score 3–1. In the 45th minute, from a corner kick on the right, Vishnu delivered the ball and Manotosh Maji attempted an on-target header, but Kushal Dutta made the save. The ball fell between a crowd of players near the goal line, and at that moment Jesin TK attempted a shot. While trying to stop the attempt, Bishnu Murmu aiming to stopped it, accidentally put the ball into his own net.
The scoring didn’t stop there as Vishnu was in a hurry to complete his hat-trick. In first-half added time 45+2nd minute, Bijoy Murmu’s cut-back from the right inside the box found Vishnu, who scored the fourth goal for East Bengal FC.
In the second half, BMS Academy shifted to a more defensive approach but got an opportunity to reduce the scoreline. In the 69th minute, from Barun Murmu’s cross, Sumit Majumder attempted a bicycle kick, but Gourav was alert enough to deny him this time.
In the 79th minute, the Red and Gold Brigade got a golden opportunity to score their fifth. Substitute Mohamed Bilal’s grounded pass from the left was cleared away by Ritesh Thakur before substitute Sanjib Ghosh could attempt a shot.
However, East Bengal FC scored their fifth goal in the 81st minute through Bijoy Murmu to complete their five-star performance of the afternoon.
BMS Academy were promoted to the CFL Premier this season and came into the competition with an average squad age of just 17 years. Sumit Majumder, aged 23 is the oldest only , and one of the oldest player in the academy, he had an impactful influence on the team, helping them reach the CFL with his performances. After the match, the young side’s coach admitted that all these boys are here to play good football, made an impressive impact on the football spectators, and become stronger by facing experienced and stronger opponents.
Meanwhile, East Bengal coach Archisman Biswas was happy with the big win and the progress of his team. He also admitted that their opponents are very talented, which is important for the future of football as these boys continue to develop.
With two wins from two matches, East Bengal FC continued their perfect start to the CFL 2026 campaign. While BMS Academy earned praise for their fearless display against the defending champions despite the heavy defeat.
