Kolkata, June 15: Mohammedan Sporting Club’s new secretary took the oath at the club on Monday afternoon. A few days ago, the former management resigned, following which Humayun Kabir took charge as the new president of the club. Former secretary Wasim Akram also returned to the club after almost five years to take charge as secretary once again.
The age-old Kolkata giants have been facing several challenges in recent years, most notably financial struggles that have affected both their performance and reputation. The club has dealt with pending salaries, player registration bans, legal cases, and several other issues. As a result, they finished at the bottom of the recently concluded Indian top-tier league season and, under the new regulations, were relegated.
However, the club has already appealed to the Supreme Court against the All India Football Federation’s relegation decision, arguing that relegation should not be enforced in a short-format league without an appropriate competitive structure. Despite the financial difficulties, the new secretary, Wasim Akram, who has previously served in the role, has promised that the club will continue to fight and do everything possible to remain in the top tier of Indian football.
With Humayun Kabir taking charge as Honorary President and SK Wasim Akram returning as General Secretary, Mohammedan Sporting Club has officially entered a new administrative era. The new leadership has been entrusted by the Board of Trustees to form a fresh Executive Committee, while Advocate Firdous Samim and CA Mohammed Bajlur Islam have been appointed as club advisors to help guide the club’s future direction.
Alongside the leadership changes, the club has announced significant financial and corporate restructuring measures. The existing Private Limited company will be dissolved and a new entity will be established to oversee the club’s football and commercial operations, while separate financial structures will be maintained for society and corporate activities. Through these reforms, the new administration aims to build a more transparent and efficient framework for the historic Kolkata club’s future growth and stability.

As running a sports club requires not only stability on the field but also a strong financial backbone, Mohammedan SC can now hope for a fresh beginning. The fans have seemed frustrated and tired in recent times, often protesting against the club’s conditions, while the internal issues have also affected the team’s performances on the field. Now, with a new administration in place, it remains to be seen what changes lie ahead.
Meanwhile, the Black-and-White Brigade is set to begin preparations for the upcoming Calcutta Football League, with training scheduled to start on June 20 along with a pre-season camp. The club will gradually shift its focus towards the competitions ahead as it looks to embark on a new chapter both on and off the pitch.
