Jamshedpur FC’s Last Kick-Off: Final match against Mohun Bagan SG in Durand Cup 2026

Jamshedpur FC’s nine-year journey ends with a courageous final stand against Mohun Bagan SG in the Durand Cup 2026 quarter-final.

Kolkata, August 17: Tonight was more than just a quarter-final defeat for Jamshedpur FC. It was the final kick of a nine-year journey. With the club having already decided not to continue and having sold its licence, the Durand Cup 2026 campaign marked their final tournament.

Under the lights of the historic Durand Cup, the Red Miners stepped onto the pitch for the last time, knowing that this would be their final chapter in competitive football. Against Mohun Bagan SG in the quarter-final, they fought for one last time, carrying with them nine years of memories, battles, victories, heartbreaks and moments that shaped their identity.

Jamshedpur FC’s journey began with hope, grew through challenges and eventually became an important part of Indian football. From their first steps on the pitch to the final night of their Durand Cup 2026 campaign, the Red Miners created a story that will remain part of the footballing landscape not only on grassroots.

Jamshedpur FC may have bowed out, but they left the pitch with a performance that reflected the fight and character of the Red Miners. Against a strong Mohun Bagan SG side, all Indian Jamshedpur side refused to be overwhelmed after conceding inside the opening two minutes. They fought their way back into the contest through Rashithoi’s long-range effort and Devendra’s sharp follow-up before holding their own through the second half.

As the match entered its final stages, the Red Miners continued to push for a winner, matching Mohun Bagan’s intensity and forcing the quarter-final into a penalty shootout. Even there, they stayed composed, converting eight penalties in a row before the decisive miss ended their campaign.

At just 17, Lawmsangzuala stepped up to take the final penalty but missed the target. The boy known as ‘Mama’ has already been making people take notice. A product of the Jamshedpur FC academy, the young forward has steadily built his reputation through the club’s youth and reserve teams. His breakthrough season saw him finish as the Golden Boot winner of the 2024–25 Reliance Foundation Development League with 16 goals, underlining his natural goalscoring ability.

His rise continued into the Durand Cup 2026, where Mama announced himself on the bigger stage with a stunning hat-trick against Indian Air Force FT in Jamshedpur FC’s 6–0 victory.

Against the wall Vishal Kaith, Mama stepped up in a moment of pressure. He was unable to find the target, bringing an end to the competition for the Red Miners. But one missed penalty cannot define the journey of a 17-year-old who has already shown glimpses of a promising future. After a hard-fought battle against Mohun Bagan SG, Jamshedpur FC bid farewell to the football pitch for the final time.

And tonight, as they walked off the pitch for the last time, it was not merely a team leaving a tournament. It was Jamshedpur FC saying goodbye.
