Kolkata, December 17: In the ongoing Bengal Super League Sundarban Auto Bengal FC secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over JHR Royal City FC at the DSA Ground, Malda, on Wednesday evening, registering their second win of the competition.
The match began with high intensity, as Malda Murshidabad JHR Royal City FC pressed aggressively from the start. In the 20th minute, they came very close to taking the lead when Adama Couly played a neat one-two with his teammate and fired a shot from close range inside the box. However, the effort narrowly missed the target and brushed the side netting.
Despite JHR’s early pressure, Sundarban Auto Bengal FC also created chances in the first half. Richmond had two good opportunities but failed to convert them, keeping the score level at halftime.
The second half saw both teams pushing for the breakthrough. JHR Royal City FC produced their most promising move in the 77th minute when a low cross found Robi inside the box. He was well placed but could not connect properly with the ball, missing a clear chance to score.
Just a minute later, the turning point arrived. Aqib moved past defender Karan Murmu with the ball and was brought down inside the penalty area. The referee immediately pointed to the spot. Richmond stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, scoring the only goal of the match and breaking the deadlock in the 78th minute.
JHR Royal City FC tried to respond but could not find a way back. Despite enjoying 56% ball possession and attempting nine shots, they failed to score. However Sundarban Auto Bengal FC did that crucial thing and showed game control in the crucial moments, which made the difference.
With this 1–0 win on JHR Royal City FC’s home ground, Sundarban Auto Bengal FC continued their strong run and walked away with all three points on Wednesday evening. Two back-to-back away victories will add more confidence to Mehtab Hosen’s Sundarban Auto Bengal FC as they move forward in the competition.
In the other Bengal Super League fixture of the day, Northbengal United FC defeated Kopa Tigers Birbhum 2–1. Shlok Tiwari scored a brace for Northbengal United FC, while Akash Mondal pulled one back for the Tigers, but it was not enough to change the result.
