Kolkata, December 18: Burdwan Blasters and FC Medinipur shared the points in an evenly contested Bengal Super League encounter on Thursday, as the match ended in a 1–1 draw after an intense battle across both halves in the Bolpur ground.
Burdwan Blasters took the lead just before halftime. In the 44th minute, Mbengue scored with a strong long ground shot. Even though a FC Medinipur defender was nearby, the ball went straight into the net, giving Burdwan a 1–0 lead
The second half saw FC Medinipur respond with renewed intent. Their pressure paid off in the 63rd minute when a well-delivered cross from the right flank found Somnath Paramanik unmarked inside the box. Somnath made no mistake, guiding a precise header past the Burdwan goalkeeper to level the score at 1–1.
Just six minutes later, FC Medinipur came close to reclaiming the lead. A defensive lapse allowed Nuhu to latch onto a through ball and fire towards goal, but Burdwan keeper Nabakumar produced a sensational save. The ball later deflected off the post, denying what looked like a certain goal and keeping FC Medinipur in the game.
Much like the first half, the remainder of the match turned into a head-to-head battle, with both sides creating chances but failing to find a winner. In the end, the teams settled for a point each.
Notably, Sandip Nandy’s Burdwan Blasters and Jayanta Sen’s FC Medinipur had started their Bengal Super League campaigns with defeats, after taking the lead first. In this fixture showing improved performances, both sides will take encouragement from securing their first point of the season in their second outing.
The numbers clearly show how closely fought the match was. Both Burdwan Blasters and FC Medinipur registered 8 attempts each, with 4 shots on target apiece, highlighting how evenly matched the two sides were in front of goal.
FC Medinipur enjoyed slightly more control of the game, finishing with 52% possession, compared to Burdwan Blasters’ 48%, which also reflected in their higher number of corners. Burdwan, meanwhile, earned only 2 corners, relying more on quick attacks and long efforts.
Overall, the statistics underline why the contest ended in a 1–1 draw, as both teams matched each other in chances, accuracy, and intensity throughout the 90 minutes.
