CFL PREMIER DIVISION 2024: A saddened start for Mohun Bagan Super Giant and the Mariners. Calcutta Football League 2024 match number twenty first has been played between Mohun Bagan Super Giant Vs Bhawanipore SC. But the results is not delightful for both of them, the match ended up with 1-1 scoreline, at Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay Stadium, Barrackpore today.
After kick off, Bhawanipore SC started high pressing football. At 7th minute Bhawanipore committed a foul outside of the eighteen yards box, Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s midfielder Sibajit Singh took that set piece and directly scored the much awaited season’s first goal for Mohun Bagan Super Giant from the second post.

At 13th minute of the match Bhawanipore SC build up an attack from the midfield, from the right wing Safiul Rahaman pass the ball inside the box to Jiten Murmu but he missed. At 22nd minute Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s defender Saurabh Bhanwala pass the ball inside the box for Suhail Bhat, but he couldn’t reach out to the ball, it could have been a good goal scoring chance. Within seven minutes from Umer Muhthar’s cross, forward Jiten Murmu scored the equaliser goal from the second post for Bhawanipore SC.

Not a good defending by Mohun Bagan Super Giant, in front of two defenders unmarked Jiten brings the important equaliser goal for his team. At 33rd minute again Suhail Bhat missed a ball from inside of the box. At 36th minute Bhawanipore got a corner, Safiul Rahaman delivered the ball into the box, but Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s keeper Raja Barman saved the header, which came from Umer Muhthar.
At 37th minute Bhawanipore SC’s player Safiul committed a foul to Taison Singh in the right wing, with this rough collision Safiul Rahaman got injured. Within five minutes Safiul left the field with a massive neck injury, and got admitted in to the Barrackpore Hospital. Bhawanipore SC played very impressive football throughout the first half of the match, with fifty five percent ball position.
In the starting of the second half Bhawanipore SC’s defender Bikram Pradhan committed a rough tackle to Fardin Ali and saw a yellow card, Sibajit took that free kick from the right wing but no results came from it for Mohun Bagan Super Giant. At 49th minute Bhawanipore SC got a possible goal scoring chance, when Riswan took a center from the left wing outside of the box but failed to change the scoreline. At 58th minute from Taison’s cross Fardin scored a goal, but he was offside so the goal was cancelled by the referee.

After three minutes Bhawanipore SC got a corner, Jojo took a deep inside shot but the Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s keeper Raja Barman punched out the ball. At 69th minute Fardin Ali commit a foul just outside of the box and gave a free kick to Bhawanipore SC from a terrible spot, Dip Saha took that free kick but, the shot was deflected by the human wall.

At 73rd minute Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s substitute player delivered a very good cross but Suhail Bhat failed to make it 1-2 for Mohun Bagan Super Giant. In the additional time, at 90+1 minute Sibajit Singh delivered a cross inside the box, Raj Basfore took a header but, Bhawanipore SC’s Substitute goalkeeper Priyant Kumar saved the header, that save was outstanding, with that he saved one point for his team.
The match was quite good, but not impressive. Both team were got so many chances but couldn’t score more than two goal. Not a expected start from Mohun Bagan Super Giant, but it’s just the beginning of the long Calcutta Football League , season 2024.
