Kolkata, January 14: Howrah Hooghly Warriors were held to a 1–1 draw by JHR Royal City FC Malda Murshidabad in their 11th fixture of the Bengal Super League at the Kalyani Stadium, in a match filled with intensity, chances, and competitive football from both sides.
The Warriors started the game on the front foot, showing confidence and control right from the opening minutes. Their positive approach paid dividends early. In the 5th minute, Azaharuddin Mallick made a sharp one-on-one run into the penalty box, where he was brought down roughly by Salman. The referee immediately pointed the spot. Paulo Cezar stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty on target to give Howrah Hooghly Warriors 1–0 lead.
After conceding early, JHR Royal City FC gradually settled into the game and began building attacks. Their composed play was rewarded in the 35th minute when Joao Vitor finished off a well-worked move to equalise, making it 1–1. The first half ended with both teams level, reflecting an evenly contested battle.
The second half saw Howrah Hooghly Warriors pushing hard for a winning goal. They showed strong attacking intent, created several chances, and kept sustained pressure on the opposition defence. Despite their dominance and relentless effort, the final touch was missing, and the JHR defence managed to hold firm until the final whistle.
With this result, Howrah Hooghly Warriors continue to sit at the top of the league table after 11 matches, collecting 23 points. JHR Royal City FC, meanwhile, remain close behind in third position with 20 points from the same number of matches.
