Kolkata, September 14: The Calcutta Football League derby between East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting ended in a 1–1 draw after a late equaliser denied Mohammedan Sporting all three points in the crucial fixtures on Monday afternoon at Kalyani stadium.
Mohammedan SC and East Bengal FC both started the game with attacking intent. Tough Mohammedan SC created the first big moment in the 23rd minute. Lalthankima made a quick attack and was fouled by Monotosh and Jay Baz outside the box. Mahitosh stepped up to take the free-kick but failed to find the target.
Lalthankima continued to remain a threat and came close again in the 39th minute. His volley from distance was heading towards the target, but East Bengal goalkeeper Gourab made a great save to keep the East Bengal net untouched.
East Bengal looked for their chances as the game progressed. Early in the second half, Argya sent a pass from the right into the box, but Devdutta failed to capitalise on the open opportunity as East Bengal missed a good chance to take the lead.
East Bengal were then forced into a change in the 58th minute. Substitute Suman Dey went down after a challenge with Israfil and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. Somik Koley came on in his place, with the injury forcing Red & Gold Brigade into the substitution.
Mohammedan Sporting finally broke the deadlock in the 69th minute. Remsanga found Lalthankima with a pass from the right side inside the box. Lalthankima’s shot towards the second post took a deflection off the post before going into the net to give Mohammedan Sporting Club the lead.
East Bengal tried to find their way back into the game. In the 82nd minute, from direct corner kick Nikhil fisted the ball, but the ball fell to Devdutta. However, before he could capitalise on the situation, Mohammedan Sporting managed to regain control.
Just when it looked like Mohammedan Sporting would walk away with the derby victory amd all three points, East Bengal found the equaliser deep into stoppage time.
In the fifth minute of added time, East Bengal won a corner and Akash Hemram arrived to the occasion, finding the back of the net to make it 1–1.
The late goal ensured the CFL derby ended all square, with both teams sharing the points after an intense contest. But with the point sharing the road to defend the Calcutta Football League trophy become tougher for East Bengal FC as with only remain one fixtures they have now 2 points and no goal margin.
Where winning the Super six first match and after today’s draw Mohammedan moved to the second among all six team with 4 points and two goal, just behind their last fixtures opponent Mohun Bagan SG, which gonna be the probable decided of the Calcutta Football League 2026.
