Bengal Super League to Kick Off in October 2025: A New Dawn for District Football!
A new chapter in Bengal’s football history has begun. The Bengal Super League (BSL) was officially launched on July 8, at a grand event held at The Lalit Great Eastern, Kolkata. Conceptualized by the Indian Football Association (IFA), in collaboration with Shrachi Sports and Z Sports, this franchise-based tournament promises to bring professional-level football to Bengal’s heartlands. Z Sports has been announced as the official broadcast partner of the Bengal Super League.
This historic initiative was unveiled in the presence of key figures from the Indian football fraternity including IFA President Mr. Ajit Banerjee, Secretary Mr. Anirban Dutta, and several veteran footballers. Also gracing the occasion were representatives from Shrachi Sports and Zee Entertainment Enterprises.
What is the Bengal Super League?
The Bengal Super League (BSL) is a franchise-format football competition designed to revitalize and professionalize district-level football across West Bengal. Scheduled to begin in October 2025, the inaugural edition will follow a home-and-away format, spanning 61 matches over 8 weeks.
Each of the 8 participating teams will represent a unique geographical zone (franchise zone), consisting of two or more districts. A key highlight of the league is its mandatory district representation rule—each squad must include at least one player from its own district, ensuring the grassroots connection remains intact.
