Mohun Bagan dominate Coal India 5-1, with Manvir Singh and Kiyaan Nassiri starring in a commanding Super Six opener.
Kolkata, September 10, 2026: Mohun Bagan Super Giant decisively defeated the Coal India Sports Promotion Association in the opening match of the Super Six round of the Calcutta Football League, scoring five goals. Following their recent humiliating draw to East Bengal juniors, the Mariners were determined to bounce back in this match. Mohun Bagan took the field with a strong line-up led by Subhasish Bose, featuring prominent players such as Manvir Singh, Sahal Abdul Samad, Kiyan Nassiri, and Liston Colaco. Whereas, Coal India faced significant challenges as eight key players were unavailable due to contract expirations.
Mohun Bagan started with high hopes; continuous attacks and good passes gave them the momentum right from the start. Though they failed to score and missed chances by a slight margin, the deadlock broke in the 21st minute of the game when Sahal Abdul Samad’s pass was converted into a goal by Manvir Singh.
Five goals in the first half
Right after the goal, in the 31st minute of the game, Mohun Bagan needed to bring Tekcham on to replace Colaco, who felt discomfort in his legs. Later, in the post-match press conference, Mariners coach Bastab Roy confirmed that it was a hamstring niggle. After the change, Mohun Bagan never looked back in the match; they used the momentum to dismantle the Coal India defence. Sahal Abdul Samad’s individual run from the middle of the ground gave the maroon and green their second goal. Right after that, Kiyan headed down the ball from the right of the penalty box, and Sandip Mullick, with a side volley, turned it into a goal.
Between 34 and 39 minutes of the game, Mohun Bagan shot the ball into the net three times; they took the lead to four with Kiyan’s outstanding conversion of Manvir’s forward pass.
In the 41st minute of the game, Deepak Bekthan tackled Manvir Singh in the penalty box, resulting in a foul, and Manvir used the chance to take the goal difference to five.
Coal India’s resilience in the second half
After conceding five goals, Coal India strengthened their midfield with substitutions and eventually scored. In the 74th minute, Coal India earned a penalty after a handball by Raj Basfore, and Irfan Sardar used the opportunity to score their first goal.
After the last match, Mohun Bagan handled their composure better on the field, and now, with a four-goal lead on the chart, the management will look forward to continuing the momentum in the championship race. The Mariners will next face United SC on 13th September, and Coal India will face SP Bhowanipore FC on 15th September.
