Emotional Farewell: Mohun Bagan SG Legend Dimitri Petratos Leaves After Historic 4-Year

After four unforgettable seasons, six major trophies and countless iconic moments, Dimitri Petratos bids an emotional farewell to Mohun Bagan SG, leaving behind a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of the Mariners.

Kolkata, July 10: In a time of rebuilding, Mohun Bagan SG and Dimitri Petratos have parted ways. At the end of the season, when the club is reconstructing its squad to appear stronger in the new season, many players are coming and leaving. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old Australian, after four years of an incredible journey and earning the tag “DimiGod” from the Mariners, is walking away from the Green and Maroon tent.

While many football players come to play, only a few remain in a club’s history and in the hearts of its fans forever. Petratos is one of them in the Mariners’ history. Since joining in the 2022 season, from scoring derby goals, last-minute winners and unexpected stunners, to delivering impactful performances in championship-winning campaigns and Mohun Bagan SG’s historic double ISL triumph, to responding to the supporters, crying with them, and meeting them in every situation while fulfilling their demands, Dimitri Petratos is leaving after collecting and giving so many unforgettable memories over four remarkable years.

Since joining Mohun Bagan, he made 100+ appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing more than 20 assists. A striker by position, he mostly appeared as a midfielder, a role he could play with great effectiveness. He won six major trophies: two Indian Super League Cups, two Indian Super League Shields, one Durand Cup, and one IFA Shield.

He also won several individual awards. During his most successful season, 2023–24, he won the Indian Super League Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. He also received the Mohun Bagan Sibdas Bhaduri Award for Best Player in 2024 and the Mohun Bagan Subhas Bhowmik Award for Best Striker in 2023. In addition, he won multiple Fans’ Goal of the Week awards and Best Player of the Month awards.

Petratos has four Kolkata derby goals. One of them came during his Durand Cup-winning campaign. In 2023, he scored the only goal in the Durand Cup final against East Bengal FC and sealed the Durand Cup championship in Mohun Bagan’s and his name. The other three goals came in the Indian Super League.

In July 2022, from Arabian club Al-Wehda, following a loan spell with Australian A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers, he joined Mohun Bagan. After a competitive, emotional, and memorable phase with the Kolkata giants, Petratos officially left the club on July 9, 2026.

Trophies and goals will be remembered, and records may eventually be broken. But Dimitri Petratos’ greatest legacy in Green and Maroon lies in the bond he built with the supporters. As one chapter ends, the memories of “DimiGod” will continue to live in the hearts of the Mariners. He leaves the club, but his name will forever remain a part of Mohun Bagan’s history.
