Kolkata, April 24: Mohammedan SC are set to play their tenth fixture of the ongoing Indian Super League against debutants Sporting Club Delhi on the 26th in Delhi at 5:00 PM. However, the Black and White Army will approach the match aiming to secure their place in the league.
With only four matches remaining and Mohammedan SC positioned at the bottom of the points table, the upcoming match has become crucial for them and must have collected all the points. Against Odisha FC, they opened their account with one point, and in the last match against Chennaiyin FC, they earned another point. On the other hand, Sporting Club Delhi have earned eight points from eight matches and are currently placed 11th in the points table.
In the new rules, the bottom team will be relegated to the Indian Football League for the next season. And the competition to stay in the league has become tough as Northeast United FC are positioned 12th with 7 points from 10 matches and Odisha FC are on 13th with 6 points from 8 matches. Though the team will be hoping to bounce back and see it as not impossible.
Mehrajuddin Wadoo kept faith in his team, believes they can fight their way out of the bottom of the table despite the difficult situation. He explained that one win could change their position quickly and bring them closer to Odisha FC, making the battle for survival more competitive.
He also praised the players for their effort and commitment, saying the squad has not lost hope and continues to fight in every match despite the problems happening off the field at the club. According to Wadoo, the players are giving their best on the pitch, but he feels the team also needs luck to go in their favour during matches. Wadoo made it clear that Mohammedan SC’s main objective in the remaining fixtures is to collect points and move into a more competitive position in the league table.
After completing nine matches with all indian squad Wadoo explained that the main problems in the squad earlier were a lack of confidence and experience. But after playing several difficult matches, he feels the players have now gained more belief and maturity, which is helping the team improve. He added that the squad wants to carry this new confidence and experience into the upcoming matches and aim for the best possible results against SC Delhi.
With the remaining matches ahead, Mohammedan SC now want to focus only on the upcoming clash against Sporting Club Delhi. Except for the two derby matches, Mohammedan SC have conceded only ten goals in seven matches, showing a strong defensive structure and concentration, they have also scored four goals.
With survival still possible, the Black and White Army will look to carry their fighting spirit, improved confidence, and defensive discipline into the crucial fixtures ahead as they continue their battle to stay in the league.
