Syria won the Intercontinental Cup in 2024 after beating India. Today, at the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Hyderabad, India ended their 2024 Intercontinental Cup campaign with a 3-0 defeat against Syria. In their previous match, Men in Blue played to a goalless draw against Mauritius, while Syria won their previous match against Mauritius with two goals.
Today, after kickoff, Syria took the lead early in the 7th minute with Al Aswad’s goal. He tried to cross the ball, but inside the box, the Blue Tigers’ defenders managed to intercept his shot. However, he regained possession and placed the ball into the net.
In the 26th minute, India built up an attack, and Nandhakumar delivered their first cross of the match, but Syria’s keeper managed to grip the ball. India attempted a few more attacks in the first half to equalize the score, but Syria’s defense remained well-composed.
In the second half, Blue Tigers resumed the game with attacking intensity, attempting various shots, but Syria’s defense remained alert. In the last quarter, at the 76th minute, Syria doubled their lead with Irandust’s goal. He entered from the right side of the box and placed the ball toward the net. The shot wasn’t very strong, but Gurpreet failed to save it.
In additional time, at the 90+6th minute, Syria found their third goal, scored by Pablo Sabbag. India ended the match with dominant ball possession and more shots, including five on target, but with a 3-0 score, Syria secured the victory and became the 2024 Intercontinental Cup champions.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri A. Revanth Reddy, presented the winners’ trophy to Syria. Syria’s captain, Al Mawas, received the Syed Abdul Rahim Player of the Tournament Trophy.
