Kolkata, January 4: Sundarban Auto Bengal FC returned to the top of the table with a dominant 2–0 victory over Kopa Tigers Birbhum at their home ground, Canning Stadium, on Sunday afternoon. The win takes Sundarban Bengal Auto FC to 16 points from 8 matches, once once again showing their strong title form.
The hosts made an early breakthrough in the 6th minute. From a well-delivered corner, Richmond rose unchallenged inside the box and headed the ball home, catching the Kopa Tigers defence completely unmarked to give Sundarban Bengal Auto FC the lead.

Sundarban Bengal Auto FC continued to control proceedings and came close to doubling their advantage in the 34th minute. An effective move down the left saw Aqib Nawab hold the ball patiently before setting it for Richmond, who found himself in a perfect position inside the box. However, the Kopa Tigers Birbhum keeper Mahanta reacted quickly to grip the ball just before Richmond could take his shot.
The pressure finally told again in the 38th minute, when Aquib Nabab from the left side cut back in and took a strong grounder from outside the box and found the net to make it 2–0, giving Sundarban Bengal Auto FC a comfortable lead going into the break.

In the second half, Sundarban Bengal Auto FC shifted to a slightly more defensive approach, allowing Kopa Tigers Birbhum to show more intent and enjoy better ball possession compared to the opening period. Their best opportunity of the match came in the 78th minute, when substitute Jaideep Singh picked up the ball during an attacking move and unleashed a long-range effort. The shot narrowly missed the target, going out by inches.
The home side nearly added a third goal in stoppage time. In the 90+2nd minute, Prateek delivered a precise ball from the left side of the box, and Taufique, positioned on the goal line, narrowly failed to tap it into the net.
Despite that late miss, Sundarban Bengal Auto FC comfortably saw out the game to secure a vital three points at home. With this win, they climb back to the top of the standings, reinforcing their strong form as the competition progresses. On the other hand, Georgi Kostadinov’s Kopa Tigers Birbhum remain rooted at the bottom of the table, managing only two points so far.
