Shock Exit: Oscar Bruzon to Leave East Bengal FC Amid ISL 2025-26 Title Race Pressure

Oscar Bruzon Confirms East Bengal FC Exit Before Crucial ISL Clash

Kolkata , May 3: The Indian Super League 2025–26 has entered its final phase, where every fixture has become crucial, and one of them is East Bengal FC vs Mumbai City FC, which the Red and Gold Brigade are going to play on Tuesday, 5th May, at the Mumbai Football Arena. With only three weeks left in the season, Oscar Bruzon has declared his decision to leave the club.

‘I gave my life, sweat and blood for this team, but there’s no vision, no long-term plan, no continuity’

said Bruzon as he announced that he will leave East Bengal FC at the end of the season.

Oscar Bruzon revealed that after signing his contract extension with East Bengal FC almost fourteen months ago he immediately started planning for the season alongside the club’s management, months of analysing the team’s strengths and weaknesses, scouting players, and trying to rebuild the club to bring back its glory days. Bruzon also took full responsibility for the team’s performances this season.

However, he admitted that by May, he felt there was no clear vision, long-term planning, or discussions about the future of the club and its key players. Because of that, he decided not to continue as head coach after the season ends on 31 May.

Bruzon clarified that his decision was personal and not related to money, management issues, or the past performances or the uncertainty around Indian football. He added that he cannot continue at a club without a proper plan for the future, but promised to give everything for the team in the final weeks of the season.

Where the match demands a do-or-die situation, as the result could impact the title race and make the battle for the league title even more intense, this decision could affect the dressing room with a crucial away fight still waiting ahead. However, Oscar Bruzon explained that his announcement was meant to remove confusion inside the dressing room so the players could focus only on their performances and the team’s goal of finishing as high as possible in the standings.

Bruzon also hinted at ongoing internal narratives and uncertainty around the direction of East Bengal FC. He further added the players are still unaware of their future, as the management has not clarified anything regarding their contracts despite only three weeks remaining in the season.

Oscar Bruzon made it clear that the decision to leave East Bengal FC is final. He said he did not want people to twist the situation or wait for one bad result to create new stories around his future. By speaking openly now, Bruzon wanted to end all the rumours and keep the focus on the team and the final matches of the season.

At the end of last season, around the time the Durand Cup started, East Bengal FC began rebuilding the squad by signing key players the team actually needed. The performances followed with a quarter-final finish in the Durand Cup and two runner-up finishes in the Super Cup and the IFA Shield final.

In the ongoing Indian Super League season, the Red and Gold Brigade have shown a level of consistency they had rarely displayed in previous league campaigns. They are currently fifth in the table with 18 points and still have four matches in hand as they continue fighting for the title.

When the fans are about to took relief with the performances and burning the Moshal high , Oscar Bruzon raised concerns about the influence of others within the club. Ahead of the clash against Mumbai City FC in the pre-match press conference, he admitted that the club lacks vision, planning, and consistency, saying that as a professional coach he could no longer continue under such conditions.

However, while confirming that his decision would not change, Bruzon praised the fans, history, and legacy of East Bengal FC. “I want to give a shout out to our fans. They have been incredible to me in the good and in the bad moments. They always had that belief. That belief gives us more resilience, more endurance and more willingness to try to do the things well. So the fans of East Bengal, for me, will always remain the best fan base in Asia” said Oscar after announcing his decision of departuring.

With the season entering its decisive stage, Oscar Bruzon’s announcement has added even more emotion and tension around East Bengal FC’s title fight. Now, with four matches left, the focus shifts to how the team responds on the pitch as Bruzon prepares for his final weeks at the club.
