Panagiotis Dilmperis Named Mohun Bagan SG Head Coach – Can the Greek Deliver More Silverware?
Kolkata, July 6: Panagiotis Dilmperis became the head coach of Mohun Bagan Super Giant. After so many “this” and “that,” which could have been announced a month ago, the UEFA A Licence holder Greek manager has finally joined the Green and Maroon side. Panagiotis joined Mohun Bagan Super Giant from Punjab FC on a one-year contract.
With the historic Durand Cup 2026 set to kick off the new season, and the highly anticipated Kolkata Derby scheduled for July 25, for the opening, Mohun Bagan SG have already begun their preparations. As the new season approaches, the club have now also finalised their head coach, replacing Sergio Lobera with Panagiotis Dilmperis.
From Greek club AE Ermionida, Panagiotis Dilmperis joined Punjab FC ahead of the previous season and made an immediate impact. Punjab FC finished their Indian Super League campaign as one of the title contenders under his guidance. With a sharp attacking style of football, Panos quickly made his mark. Not only with the senior team, Panagiotis also kept a close watch on the club’s youth setup. His focus on youth development was reflected in the way he promoted several talented youngsters from the club’s academy to the senior team, helping them earn valuable first-team opportunities.
Speaking about the passionate Mohun Bagan fan base, Dilmperis acknowledged the expectations that come with managing one of India’s biggest clubs. He described pressure as a privilege, saying that high expectations are a natural part of representing Mohun Bagan. The Greek coach stressed that while no one can guarantee victories every week, the team will always step onto the pitch with courage, discipline and the determination to fight for every result.
He also highlighted that earning the supporters’ trust through hard work, professionalism and performances worthy of the club’s rich legacy will remain one of his biggest priorities.
About the Kolkata Derby, Dilmperis showed both respect and confidence. Understanding the importance of the rivalry and what it means to the supporters, players and the club. The Greek coach emphasised preparation, discipline and self-belief, while making it clear that Mohun Bagan will approach the derby with courage and the ambition to win.
