Kolkata, March 20: In the ongoing ISL Mohun Bagan’s winning run came to an end in their own fortress against their challengers, Mumbai City FC. It was their first home defeat in the last two seasons, as Mumbai City FC beat Mohun Bagan SG 1–0 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Friday evening.
The first half saw Mumbai City take the lead. In the 22nd minute, Mumbai City created the first real threat from a quick attack. Chhangte received a through ball from Diaz and attempted a shot, but the advancing Vishal Kaith made the save. From the rebound, Akash Mishra aimed for the empty net, but Mehtab Singh cleared it with a crucial header to keep the score level. However, within five minutes, Noufal PN’s on-target strike from the left corner of the box gave the Islanders the lead.

Despite having 72% ball possession, completing 592 passes, and taking more than 20 shots, the key stats failed to dominate as Mohun Bagan SG could not convert their chances. Overall, in the second half, when Mumbai City FC shifted to a defensive approach, Mohun Bagan played attacking football, but the rhythm was too slow to bring a goal. With this win, Mumbai City FC strengthened their dominance over Mohun Bagan based on past results, and in the ongoing campaign they moved to the top of the table with 14 points from 6 matches before the FIFA break. Mohun Bagan SG dropped to second place with 13 points.
