Kolkata, February 22: Mohun Bagan Super Giant return to competition after an eight-day gap as they set to play their second fixture of the Indian Super League 2025–26 against Chennaiyin FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan from 7:30 PM, tommorow.
After winning their opening match, the Mohun Bagan have set the tone for their title defence. Lobera explained that while every opponent brings a different challenge, competing at the highest level demands both quality and depth, he highlighted the strength of his squad, that having a strong squad makes his job tougher in terms of selection, but also healthier for the team. With more than 22 players ready to perform at the top level, deciding the starting XI is never easy, yet this internal competition, he believes, is the ideal environment for a coach striving for consistency and long-term success.
On the other hand, the Marina Machans are yet to open their account after falling short in their opening fixture. Chennaiyin FC head coach Clifford Miranda emphasised that his approach is shaped by his squad’s strengths and the opponent, rather than a fixed formation. While different systems may be used, he underlined that the core principles of play remain constant. Miranda highlighted the balance between freedom and discipline in his team, where attacking players are encouraged to move fluidly, but always within a defined positional structure that guides their attacking movements.
In the Mohun Bagan side the head coach has joined this season, but the squad was already well set. With a full squad and no major concerns, Mohun Bagan trained lightly on the eve of the match, beginning their matchday-minus-one session with interesting and fun games, and expected to be seen in the familiar lineup tomorrow. On the other side, a familiar name in the league, Ali Bemmamer, made his debut for Chennaiyin FC in the previous match. While the head coach is new and the squad has been rotated, the faces are far from unfamiliar, with several players having featured in the ISL over past seasons and made a strong impact.
For both sides, this promises to be something of a reunion on the pitch, making it a contest that should come as no surprise.Across all competitions, they have met eleven times. Mohun Bagan Super Giant has stayed dominant with five wins, Chennaiyin FC have two, and the rest have ended in draws.
