Kolkata, May 11: In the final moments of the ongoing Indian Super League, Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Inter Kashi are set to play their 11th fixture from the remaining three matches at the home of Mohun Bagan SG, the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, on Tuesday evening from 7:30 pm. It will be a do-or-die clash, but the scenarios are different for both sides. The Mariners need to secure all three points to keep their league title defence fights alive, while on the other hand, debutants Inter Kashi need to ensure their safety and avoid slipping further in the battle to stay in the league, as this season features relegation and several upper-table teams are fighting to survive.
In the points table standings, with goal difference, Mohun Bagan SG are in second place with 21 points, while the top scorers of the league so far, arch-rivals East Bengal FC, are on top with the same points, where the derby has already started. On the other side, Inter Kashi are in 10th place with 10 points, where Sporting Club Delhi and Odisha FC behind Kashi are breathing down their necks.
Meanwhile, Antonio Habas left the club before the crucial clash where Inter Kashi are going to face Mohun Bagan Super Giant for the first time in a pressure match. The head coach of Kashi left the club a day before the match mutually with the management. Though the pressure did not arrive with that, as the players and the coaching staff have been suffering for a very long time. With no proper home ground or proper training ground, they have been roaming like travellers throughout the campaign.
During the time of their I-League campaign, the Kalyani Stadium was their home ground, but after getting promoted to the ISL, they have been roaming between Uttar Pradesh, Goa, and Kolkata to play their home fixtures. And Habas had already started speaking about the mismanagement, the financial struggles, and the hospitality issues.
With a message on social media,
“Trust is built through keeping commitments, and unfortunately when those commitments are not fulfilled, trust is lost. Together we achieved the objectives set by the management, winning the I-League, earning promotion to the ISL, and ensuring the club remains in the top tier of professional football in India,”
with that message, Antonio Habas declared his departure from Inter Kashi.
Sergio Lobera made it clear that Mohun Bagan Super Giant are not taking Inter Kashi lightly despite the situation around the opposition club. Even though Kashi are struggling off the pitch and recently saw the departure of head coach Antonio Habas, Lobera believes these kinds of matches can become more dangerous if his team loses focus.
The Spanish coach repeatedly stressed the importance of giving “100%” and avoiding overconfidence. His words reflected a serious mindset inside the Marines camp, where the focus is only on collecting the points needed to keep their title hopes alive. Rather than looking at Inter Kashi’s problems, Lobera wants his players to stay disciplined and treat the match like a high-pressure contest.
Lobera also expressed that Mohun Bagan are entering the game with caution instead of excitement. For Lobera, this is not the time to predict easy victories or think about derby. With the league entering its decisive phase, his only concern is getting the result and avoiding any costly mistake.
the response from Inter Kashi interim head coach Abhijit Mondal reflected a calmer but determined mindset inside the dressing room. Despite the off-field struggles and the departure of Antonio Habas, he believes the players still understand the importance of the remaining matches.
He highlighted that these games are not only important for the club’s survival but also for the players’ own futures, as in Indian football players are waiting for Mohun Bagan, East Bengal clash, so strong performances in high-pressure matches can change a player’s career, which is why he expects the squad to stay focused and professional.
Abhijit Mondal also spoke about Habas’ exit in a respectful manner. He reminded everyone that the Spaniard fulfilled both major objectives given by the management, guiding the team to the ISL and helping them remain in the league in a difficult relegation season. So despite the chaos around the club, the players now want to finish the campaign with responsibility.
Nothing is surprising at this moment, as every ISL clash brings excitement, and with pressure building on these two sides for completely different reasons, Tuesday’s clash promises to be more than just another league game.
