Mohun Bagan SG Crush Kalighat SLA 4-0 for First CFL 2025 Victory

Kolkata, July 3: Mohun Bagan SG secured their first Calcutta Football League win in their second match, defeating Kalighat Sports Lovers Association 4-0 at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium on Thursday. Two goals in each half sealed the much-awaited victory for Deggie Cardozo’s young Green and Maroon squad, and for the Mariners, a much wanted win.

With the first whistle, the match began at a slow pace. However, as time went on, Kalighat SLA started playing attacking football. In the 7th minute, they created a goal-bound chance when Aboy Singh received a through ball and entered the box. Before he could attempt a shot, Muhammed Bilal intercepted and stopped the move, awarding them a corner kick.

However, in the 21st minute, Mohun Bagan SG found the net and took the lead. After receiving the ball from Lewan Castana, captain Sandeep Mallick started a solo run, played a one-two with his teammate, entered the box from the right side, and placed a grounded shot towards the far post, sending it into the net.

In the 29th minute, after committing a foul on Salahuddin, Pravakar Naskar received the match’s first yellow card, awarding Mohun Bagan SG a free kick just outside the box. Lewan Castana took the free kick and sent it into the box, but the Mohun Bagan SG players couldn’t make proper contact with the ball. Kalighat SLA cleared it, but in the very next minute, Mohun Bagan SG quickly launched another attack that doubled their lead. Lewan Castana delivered a long through ball from the right wing into the box, which the goalkeeper tried to fist away, but the ball deflected off Lenminlun Doungel and went into the net, resulting in an own goal amid the gatherings.

Early in the second half, in the 50th minute, Pasang Tamang made it 3-0 for Mohun Bagan SG with an incredible half-volley. Following a misplaced pass inside the box, Tongsin recovered the ball and sent in a cross from the right, which Pasang Tamang struck perfectly and sent into the net.

Within three minutes, from a counter-attack, Kalighat SLA got a golden chance. Lewan Castana recovered the ball, but while playing a pass with Muhammed Bilal, they lost possession. Singsit snatched the ball, cut past the keeper who had come off his line, and entered the box. However, his touch on the ball was slightly heavy, pushing it ahead and causing him to miss the golden opportunity to open the net for Kalighat SLA.

In the 73rd minute, Adil scored the fourth and final goal for Mohun Bagan SG. Tongsin, breaking through the defenders, came out with the ball, made a quick turn, and passed it to Adil, who had come on as a substitute for Salahuddin a few minutes earlier. Adil calmly chipped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.

As time ran down toward the final whistle, Kalighat SLA went all out in attack, hoping at least to reduce the goal margin. In the 90+3rd minute of added time, they got one last promising chance. Shubham Jena earned a free kick just outside the box. Neihsial took the set piece, but his shot hit the wall.

Mohun Bagan SG wrapped up their second match with a 4-0 win and a clean sheet, marking a response after their opening setback. On the other hand, Kalighat SLA, despite showing intensity, remain winless after three games and continue their search for a breakthrough victory in the league.
