Crushing Blow at Home: Mohammedan SC Stunned 2–0 by FC Goa Despite Spirited Fightback

Kolkata, February 20: Mohammedan Sporting Club falls at their home as they went down 2–0 to FC Goa in their second fixture of the Indian Super League 2025–26 season, played on Friday at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan.

The visitors struck early, putting Mohammedan on the back foot from the opening minutes. In the 4th minute, FC Goa capitalised on a corner as Pol Moreno attempted a header, giving the Gaurs an early lead. Goa continued to attack with intent, and ten minutes in, a header from Brison crashed against the crossbar.

Mohammedan gradually settled and began to find their rhythm. In the 26th minute, Mahitosh earned a foul in midfield and took the resulting free-kick himself, delivering a ball into the box. Amarjit Kiyam met it with a header on target, but the Gaurs keeper Hrithik Tiwari was well positioned to make the catch.

Moments later, Mahitosh tried another shot again with a right-footed long-range effort, testing the keeper once more, but Tiwari remained alert to deny the hosts a deserved goal.

Just as Mohammedan looked coming back to the contest, another setback followed. In the 31st minute, Udanta Singh entered into the box from the right, forcing goalkeeper Subhajit Bhattacharjee into a challenge that resulted in a penalty. Drazic stepped up and converted from the spot, doubling FC Goa’s advantage before half-time.

Trailing by two goals at the break, Mohammedan SC brings some changes into their lineup, and a promising moment arrived in the 73rd minute when substitute Lalthankima initiated an attack down the left and cut the ball back to Mahitosh. His close-range effort was brilliantly saved by Hrithik Tiwari, and the rebound fell to Makhan Chothe, who agonisingly sent his shot over the crossbar from close range.

Despite pushing forward in search of a breakthrough, Mohammedan were unable to find the finishing touch. The two first-half goals ultimately proved decisive, as the Black and White brigade suffered defeat in their home outing, while taking positives from a more assertive second-half display to build on in the matches ahead, coach Wadoo stated wants to win in the upcoming fixtures.
