Kolkata, July 4: Mohammedan SC kicked off their Calcutta Football League 2025 campaign with a 2-2 draw against Calcutta Police Club on Friday at the Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay Stadium in Barrackpore. Under head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo and with a youthful squad that included a few experienced senior players, Mohammedan SC began their journey in the 127th edition of the Calcutta Football League. They took the lead twice but conceded twice to settle for a draw.
In the 15th minute, from Adison Singh’s through pass, Suvendu Malick created a goal-bound one-on-one chance, but the goalkeeper came out and denied the threat. Within three minutes, Mohammedan SC took the lead. Tanva Ragui sent a ball to Lalthankima at the right corner of the box, from where he curled it towards the near post and into the top corner of the net.
But the lead didn’t last long, as in the 20th minute, Calcutta Police Club leveled the score. They launched an attack with three back-to-back shots from inside the box, and Rahul Naskar placed the ball into the net amidst the crowd.
In the 28th minute, Mohammedan SC missed another one-on-one chance as Rubel failed to convert the opportunity. However, in the very next minute, they regained the lead. Adison took a grounded shot from the inside right corner of the box, which was saved by the goalkeeper, but the rebound fell to Lalngaihsaka, who calmly placed it into the net. However, In the 54th minute, Calcutta Police Club levelled the score once again. From a counter-attack, Sandip Oraon received a through ball, entered the box from the left, and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper into the net.
Due to heavy rain and water logging on the ground, the match kicked off seven minutes late. In a few areas, the pitch appeared waterlogged, but right from the start, the match was played at high intensity as both teams goes for attacking football, and within the end both shared the points with 2-2.
