Kolkata, January 31: Mohammedan Sporting Club have started their training for the upcoming Indian Super League season, which will begin from 14 February. The training session was held on Saturday under the guidance of head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo.
After a shaky road for ISL, it gets ready to start after many troubles, Mohammedan match the moment by starting senior team training. The club have begun preparations with a 27-member all-Indian squad. There are no foreign players in the team at the moment. Coach Wadoo said this is a good chance for Indian players to step up and show their quality, as they will get full opportunity this season.
A few new faces joined the training session, including Hira Mandal, Fardin Ali and Sagolsem Sagar. Though Hira Mandal and Fardin Ali are not new to Indian football, they could not join earlier due to some official work with the club. Their contracts were already done, but due to some issues, they joined the camp now.
Most of the players in the squad are from last season. The list includes Dinesh Meitei, Padam Chhetri, Amarjit Kiam, Israfil, Lalthankima, Lalangmawisaka, Adinga, Gaurav Bora, Maxion, Subhajit Bhattacharya, Mahitosh and others.
Sajal Bag is yet to join the training camp. Jewel Ahmed is currently playing in the Santosh Trophy and will join the team after returning from the tournament. Mohammedan Sporting have four goalkeepers in the squad. Among them, Subhodeep Pandit has been promoted from the development team to the senior team. Notably, former India goalkeeper and a familiar face in coaching, Subhasish Roychowdhury, has joined Mohammedan Sporting as the goalkeeping coach.
Mohammedan Sporting will play their home matches in Jamshedpur this season and will use the Jamshedpur ground as their home venue.
The club’s main sponsor is yet to be announced or officially confirmed, though there is a chance that Tecno may come on board. The all toyaly 29-member squad is almost final, and no more new signings are expected to join the team.With training now underway, Mohammedan Sporting will look to build a strong and united team ahead of their second ISL campaign.
