From 2,500 police personnel to numbered seating and traffic curbs, Kolkata has stepped up preparations for India-Brazil.
India is set to face Brazil for the first time in history, that too in the same stadium where, a few months ago, Messi faced humiliation. Yuva Bharati is once again ready for the mega event; the West Bengal government has expanded its efforts in all kinds of ways to ensure safety.
On 13th December, Messi came to Kolkata for the enormous event, the GOAT India tour and after coming into the Stadium, Messi was only able to stand there for a few minutes; fans left disheartened, and what happened after that is known to all. Brazil arrived in Kolkata on 1st October, and today, in a press conference, Carlo Ancelotti said, “For us, it will never be a friendly game. It will always be an important game to improve.”
While it will be a significant challenge for India, questions have been raised about the AIFF. The higher ticket prices have left many seats vacant, as reported by Ei Samay online; ticket sales have increased. With the temperature of the match increasing, the preparation is also happening in full swing.
What are the measures have been taken by the police?
West Bengal DGP Siddh Nath Gupta outlined the preparations and deployed 2500 police personnel for the fixture, with central forces also kept as reserves. Twenty IPS officers will take care of the whole system along with 200 officers of Various ranks. According to India Today, a three-tier security system can also be deployed if needed.
Authorities have introduced numbered seating at the venue for the first time, requiring spectators to occupy their designated seats. Entry to the stadium will begin two hours before kick-off, with security checks forming a key part of the matchday arrangements.
Everything you need to know about the traffic system
Ahead of the India-Brazil football match at Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, October 3, Bidhannagar Police have issued a traffic advisory. Fans are advised to arrive early, follow traffic signs and police directions, and use designated entry gates, drop-off points and parking areas. Parking on main roads and unauthorised parking are prohibited. Spectators are encouraged to use metro, rail or public transport due to limited parking. Drivers should cooperate with temporary restrictions and avoid rushing after the match. Fans leaving the stadium must follow designated exit routes, temporary diversions and police instructions for orderly post-match dispersal.
The historic match will kick off at 7.30 PM and will be telecast on Sony Sports Network and will also stream on SonyLIV.
