The Red and Gold Brigade triumphs in Thimphu! After 8 matches, East Bengal FC is back on the winning track. On October 29, they played their second match in the AFC Challenge League against Bashundhara Kings (Bangladesh) and secured a 4-0 victory.
In the very first minutes, Diamantakos gave East Bengal FC the lead. In the first half, all four goals came in. Souvik Chakraborty (20th min) doubled the lead, then Nanda Kumar (26th min) and Anwar Ali (33rd min) added two more goals in to the scoreboard.
In the first match of the AFC Challenge League against Paro FC (Bhutan), East Bengal FC drew and earned one point. After Tuesday’s match, East Bengal now stands second in the group table with 4 points from 2 matches, just behind Nejmeh FC (Lebanon).
On November 1, the Red and Gold Brigade will play their last group-stage match against table-toppers Nejmeh FC, who stand with 6 points from 2 matches. However, based on the other standings in Group A, it is clear that East Bengal will advance to the next round.
After completing their AFC Challenge League matches, East Bengal FC will return to Kolkata for their big clash in the Indian Super League against Mohammedan SC on November 9, at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
