Kolkata, August 23: East Bengal FC won the Durand Cup 2026 trophy by beating their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan SG. After 22 years, East Bengal FC have won the Durand Cup again, taking their tally to 17 trophies and equalling Mohun Bagan SG.

With a devastating 4–1 scoreline and a blistering footballing display, East Bengal FC ended Mohun Bagan SG’s dream of extending their dominance and widening their lead in Durand Cup titles on Sunday at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.

In the first half, East Bengal FC sealed the game, scoring within the first 22 minutes of the match. Not only did the Durand Cup return to the Red and Gold tent after 22 years, but they also secured it with a historic Derby win, adding another chapter to their historic Derby victories.

The match started with Mohun Bagan SG’s attacking pace. Within six minutes, Maclaren’s shot from the left corner of the box was dealt with by Gill. Three minutes later, Liston Colaco attempted a shot from the right side of the box, which went narrowly wide of the side netting.

However, East Bengal FC’s first shot went into the net. In the 10th minute, Rashid passed the ball into the box for Bipin Singh on the left. Bipin attempted a shot towards the near post and placed it into the net. Despite being there, Vishal couldn’t stop it and East st Bengal FC took the early lead.

Within two minutes, Edmund’s long shot saw East Bengal FC double their lead. However in the 20th minute, Liston earned a free-kick on the edge of the box and, from that promising position, he took the set-piece. But his on-target shot was brilliantly saved by Gill.

Two minutes later, East Bengal FC stretched their lead to 3–0. Cutting past Subhasish and Vishal, Edmund, from the right side of the box, put the ball into the net.

Ramirez earned a free-kick, which Rashid delivered into the box. On the left, Jay Gupta headed the ball down to Edmund, who completed his hat-trick with an on-target shot.

In the second half, no further goals came from either side. East Bengal FC shifted their focus to defence, protecting their four-goal advantage, while Mohun Bagan SG pushed forward in search of a comeback but failed to find the back of the net. East Bengal created only a few attacking opportunities, mostly relying on counter-attacks as they comfortably held on to their lead until the final whistle.

East Bengal FC’s 4–1 victory not only secured them the Durand Cup 2026 trophy but also ended a 22-year wait for the coveted title. In a historic Kolkata Derby final, the Red and Gold brigade produced a dominant display, with Edmund Lalrindika’s hat-trick leading the way. With the triumph, East Bengal FC lifted their 17th Durand Cup title, drawing level with arch-rivals Mohun Bagan SG and adding another unforgettable chapter to the storied rivalry.
