Kolkata, December 15: North 24 Parganas delivered a commanding performance to register a 4–0 victory over Kopa Tigers Birbhum in the Bengal Super League at the Naihati Stadium on Monday evening. Sharp in attack and disciplined at the back, North 24 Parganas controlled the tempo from the opening whistle and made their dominance count on the scoreboard.
The breakthrough came in the 15th minute when Kuntal Pakhira was brought down inside the penalty area by Subhankar. The referee pointed straight to the spot, and Tanmoy Ghosh stepped up and converted the penalty, to give North 24 Parganas a deserved 1–0 lead.
North 24 Parganas continued to press and nearly doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute. A swift, goal-bound move saw Sujal Munda find himself completely unmarked with the goalkeeper out of position, but in a moment of missed opportunity, he blasted the ball over the bar from close range.
The second goal finally arrived in the 29th minute. A low cross from the right flank caused chaos inside the Kopa Tigers Birbhum box as the goalkeeper failed to gather the ball cleanly. Mrinmoy Mahapatra reacted quickest to the loose ball and calmly slotted it into the net, extending the lead to 2–0 before the break.
In the second half, North 24 Parganas maintained their attacking intent. Substitute Zomvansanga made an immediate impact in the 64th minute when he found himself through on goal within minutes of coming on, but his effort narrowly missed the target, keeping the scoreline unchanged.
Persistence paid off late in the game. In the 84th minute, Kuntal Pakhira drove into the box but was halted by a Kopa Tigers defender. The ball, however, fell kindly to Zomvansanga, who made no mistake this time, finishing clinically to score the third goal for North 24 Parganas.
Just a minute later when Kuntal Pakhira crowned his impressive performance with a stunning long-range strike, finding the back of the net to make it 4–0 and seal an emphatic victory.
To conclude, Kopa Tigers Birbhum failed to showcase rhythmic football throughout the contest, struggling to build sustained moves or settle into a consistent pattern of play. In contrast, Lalkamal Bhowmik’s North 24 Parganas dominated possession, controlled the midfield, and led the game comfortably in key match statistics, underlining their superiority from start to finish and justifying the big margin win with 4–0 score line till now in the ongoing league.
