Kolkata, June 30: Mohun Bagan SG kicked off their Calcutta Football League 2025 campaign with a loss. Under head coach Deggie Cardozo and fielding a youth squad, Mohun Bagan SG suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Police AC on Monday at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium.
The match began with Green and Maroon dominance. Early in the 14th minute, Mohun Bagan SG were forced to make a substitution as Umer Muthhar was unable to continue due to an injury. Muhammed Bilal came on in his place. In the 21st minute, Mohun Bagan SG earned the match’s first free-kick. Mingma Sherpa took the set piece and placed the ball into the right side of the box for Salahuddin, who quickly sent a cross inside.
Police AC keeper failed to grip the ball, but before any Green and Maroon shirt could attempt a shot, they managed to clear it. Within three minutes, from another attack, Salahuddin took a low ground shot from the right towards the near post, but it went wide.
In the 29th minute, Police AC created a promising chance. From the right side of the box, Carlos Pao played a back pass to Enjamul Hoque at the edge right corner of the box. He quickly unleashed a grounded shot towards the far post, but it went narrowly wide.
However, just before the first half’s final whistle, Police AC took the lead. They earned a free-kick on the right side of the box in the 45+3rd minute. Sukhchand Kisku passed the ball from the set piece to Enjamul Hoque, who attempted a shot but slipped. The loose ball was then placed into the net by Amil Naim.

Within the early minutes of the second half, Mohun Bagan SG missed a golden opportunity. In the 48th minute, substitute player Shibom Munda delivered a cross from the right flank into the box. The goalkeeper managed to save it but failed to clear it properly. The rebound fell to Pasang inside the box, who attempted a shot, but it went off target.
The match rhythm slowed down as time went on, and the leading Police AC players seemed highly alert, determined not to give their opponents an inch. In the 72nd minute, Police AC launched an attack. Amil Naim made a solo run, cut past his opponents, entered the box, and unleashed a shot towards the net, but the goalkeeper made the save.
In the 89th minute, Mohun Bagan SG got their final chance to break the deadlock. Substitute player Muhammed Niyaz was fouled by fellow substitute Asif Ahmed and earned a free-kick just outside the left side of the box. Tongsin, who had come onto the field just eight minutes earlier, took the set piece, but it went directly to the goalkeeper.
With an experienced team featuring players like Subha Ghosh, SK Sahil, Ujjal Howladar, Thokchom James, and others, Police AC played their second match and ended up with a win. On the other hand, with a youth squad, Mohun Bagan SG failed to start their CFL 2025 campaign with a positive result, as the season progresses, the should be on building momentum, gaining match experience, and bouncing back stronger in the upcoming fixtures.
In the other fixtures of the Calcutta Football League today, Kalighat SLA lost 2-0 to Patha Chakra. Suruchi Sangha secured a 4-0 win over Kalighat MS. Calcutta Customs claimed a 3-0 victory over Railway FC. George Telegraph edged past BSS Sporting with a 3-2 win.
