The derby between Mohun Bagan SG and East Bengal FC will be played tomorrow at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. Due to security concerns (unavailability of a strong security force), the ‘boro match’ has been shifted to Guwahati. Both Kolkata giants have arrived in Guwahati. The match will start at 7:30 PM.
Both Kolkata giants started their ISL campaigns on contrasting notes. Mohun Bagan SG stands firmly at the top of the group table with 32 points from 14 matches, showcasing a strong grip on the first spot. Meanwhile, East Bengal sits in 11th position with 14 points from 14 matches, struggling with inconsistency. In this season’s previous derby, Mohun Bagan SG emerged victorious.
Both teams have some injury concerns however, the situation has improved compared to before. Saul Crespo, who was out for a long time, has started training with the team, and Oscar Bruzon might consider him for the derby at least for few minutes. Greg Stewart seems to be in much better condition, and Dimitrios Petratos has also resumed training with the squad.
The Green and Maroon’s head coach, Jose Molina, is focused solely towards the front and tomorrow’s high-voltage clash, he said ‘What we have done in the ISL so far doesn’t matter in tomorrow’s game. We need to perform well and defeat them on the pitch within the 90 minutes tomorrow’.
In the other side Oscar Bruzon seemed confident, and said ‘We have to optimise the resources available to us, and we have full confidence in the players who will take the field for the Kolkata Derby’.
Mohun Bagan SG’s Dimitrios Petratos holds the record for most goals in this ISL rivalry, scoring four times. East Bengal FC’s Dimitrios Diamantakos has scored four goals in five games against Mohun Bagan. This season, he has three goals and one assist.
