Brison’s Brace Ends Mohun Bagan SG’s Unbeaten Streak as FC Goa Triumphs 2-1 at Fatorda

In the Fatorda Stadium, Mohun Bagan SG lost their 12th match of the ongoing ISL against FC Goa, with a scoreline of 2-1. The Gaurs took the lead first, later, Mohun Bagan leveled the score, but FC Goa found their second goal to secure third position in the group table.

With an attacking strategy, Mohun Bagan kicked off the match, but within thirteen minutes, the hosts took the lead. Brison took a long shot from outside the box, which deflected off Tom Aldred and went in. However, apart from that goal, Mohun Bagan dominated with 58% ball possession in the first quarter.

In the 34th minute, Alberto attempted a header from a long ball on the right, but it was securely caught by the FC Goa keeper. Mohun Bagan played an attacking game in the first half, but it ended with a 1-0 lead in favor of Goa.

At the start of the second half, in the 49th minute, Mohun Bagan earned a set piece, which Petratos delivered into the box. Tom Aldred attempted a header, but it was initially cleared by the Gaurs’ defense. Off the rebound, Sahal Abdul Samad unleashed a stunning shot, but the keeper, Hrithik Tiwari responded with an equally brilliant save.

However, in the 54th minute, Petratos entered the box from the left side of the eighteen-yard area and unleashed a shot that Armando Sadiku blocked with his outstretched hand. The referee indicate a handball, awarding a penalty to the Mariners. Petratos took the penalty and leveled the score at 1-1 for the Mariners.

The equalized score didn’t last long as Brison secured his brace. In the 68th minute, Borja Herrera sent a long cross from the right toward the far post. Brison attempted a flying header, once again changing the score in favor of the Gaurs.

In added time, at the 90+1st minute, Ashique delivered an accurate cross from the left, and Maclaren attempted a header from inside the box, but it went wide. Throughout the match, Mohun Bagan SG maintained 59% ball possession and attempted several shots, but it wasn’t enough to secure their another win of this season.

With that defeat, Mohun Bagan SG ended their consistent seven-match unbeaten streak. Despite that with that win, FC Goa moved above Odisha FC to secure 3rd position in the group table with 22 points from 12 matches, while Mohun Bagan SG remained at the top with 26 points from 12 matches.
