Police AC Stuns Mohun Bagan SG with 3-2 Victory, Secures First Win in Calcutta Football League Finale

Today at Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay Stadium” Mohun Bagan SG ended their Calcutta Football League journey with a defeat against Police AC, who finished at the second from the bottom of Group B. Police AC secured their first win with it.

Police AC took an early lead in the 14th minute with an incredible long-range goal, scored by Sheik Ahmed. Mohun Bagan built up several attacks, but the results did not come, as Police AC’s defense was well composed. In the 32nd minute, Police AC doubled their lead. From the right side of the box, Biswajit tried to cross the ball, but it went into the net after a header from from Mohun Bagan SG’s Brijesh Giri.

The first half ended with a dominant 70% ball possession and several shots from Mohun Bagan SG, but the score remained in favor of Police AC. As they showed their potential and played a composed game.

Mohun Bagan SG resumed the second half with the same intensity, but missed several promising goal-bound opportunities. However, in a counter-attack in the 70th minute, due to a defensive lapse, Police AC scored their third goal. A long ball was played into the box, and although the Mohun Bagan keeper punched the ball, he didn’t clear it away. Their defense also failed to make a clearance, allowing Ashish Bakshi to strike and place the ball into the goal.

However, in the 89th minute, Mohun Bagan SG got their opening goal. Rabi Rana delivered a cross from the left wing to the far post inside the box, and substitute player Serto volleyed it in to open Mohun Bagan SG’s scoring.

After that goal, Mohun Bagan SG looked more attacking and became desperate for more goals. However, Police AC’s defense was too alert to concede any more and protected their lead. At the end of additional time, in the 90+10 minute, Mohun Bagan scored their second goal. Substitute player Vian netted it with individual brilliance through a long-range shot that left the Police AC keeper merely watching.

After dominating ball possession, Mohun Bagan SG lost the match 3-2 to Police AC today. Both teams concluded their Calcutta Football League 2024 campaign. Mohun Bagan SG finished seventh in Group B, while Police AC ended at the twelfth.
