Kolkata, March 29: India U20, after kicking off their SAFF Championship with a dominant 3-0 victory over Pakistan, drew their second clash against Bangladesh after finding the net first. Still the tournament’s favourites, India moved to the semi-finals, topping the group. Early on, Vishal Yadav found the net, but after the last whistle of the first half, Md Abdul Fahim found the equaliser for Bangladesh.
Building on that strong start, the Indian U20 boys showcased both attacking intent and composure to finish as Group B toppers in the SAFF U20 Championship 2026.
Under the guidance of Mahesh Gawali, the Blue Colts have looked like one of the most balanced sides in the tournament, blending defensive solidity with attacking sharpness. Their consistency has made them strong contenders for the title as they head into the knockout stage.
In the top goal scorers chart Maldives forward Mohamed Ilan Imran is leading the charts with three goals, but with the Maldives failing to qualify for the knockout stages, his chances of adding to that tally can’t be more. Close behind, India’s Vishal Yadav and Omang Dodum have both made strong impacts with two goals each, playing key roles in the Blue Colts’ impressive run so far. Bangladesh’s Ronan Sullivan has also netted twice. With the tournament progressing into the knockout stages, the battle among these young attackers is set to intensify.
India will now face Bhutan in the semi-final on April 1, at 9:00 PM, while Bangladesh take on Group A topper Nepal in the other last-four clash, at 4:15 PM. With momentum on their side and confidence high, the Blue Colts will aim to take another step towards the championship.
