ISL 2025-26 Kolkata Derby: Mohun Bagan Super Giant Eye Crucial Win as Mohammedan Sporting Club Seek Redemption Boost

Kolkata, February 27: The ISL 2026 season’s first derby will kick off tomorrow as Mohun Bagan Super Giant face Mohammedan Sporting Club from 7:30 PM, at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.

Having won their first two matches, the Mariners are heading in the right direction in their title defence campaign. Meanwhile, Mohammedan SC, despite losing their opening two games with an all-Indian squad, have posed a serious threat to their opponents and have not allowed them much space for an easy win. Mohun Bagan SG Head coach Sergio Lobera believes this derby is also a great opportunity for his opponent to prove themselves on a big platform with an all-Indian lineup.

Sergio Lobera feels this match is a big chance for Indian players to prove their quality. In simple words, he is saying that this situation is different from most ISL seasons, because Mohammedan Sporting Club are playing mainly with Indian players. This gives them a special platform to show their skills and compete at a high level.

Lobera also points out that Mohammedan SC have many young players. While they may still have some weaknesses or lack experience, they also bring energy, hunger, and the courage to challenge stronger teams. According to him, matches like these help Indian players show their true level to everyone watching.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant are gradually building momentum this season. From the first match to the second, there has already been visible improvement in structure, control, and overall understanding on the pitch.

With only one leg format and thirteen league matches to compete for the title, consistency becomes more important than experimentation. This is not a long season where teams can afford too many changes. Every match carries weight, and maintaining rhythm is crucial. Mohun Bagan’s squad strength lies in their balance, impactful foreigners, and dependable Indian players who understand big-match pressure.

Head coach Sergio Lobera also hinted at this mindset. He mentioned that improvement from game to game is the target and that his job is to field the best possible starting eleven to compete strongly. He made it clear that while the squad is strong and everyone must stay ready, in a short league campaign the focus remains on putting the strongest eleven on the pitch. Overall, Mohun Bagan looks focused, balanced, and aware that steady improvement, not rotation experiments, will shape their title defence.

Mohammedan Sporting Club head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo sounded confident and positive about his team’s progress. He stressed that the players are working extremely hard in training and carrying that effort into matches as well.

With a young Indian core supported by experienced players and foreigners, he believes his opponent has the right balance, also he emphasised trust in his Indian players. According to him, the hard work on the training ground and the growing confidence within the squad show that Mohammedan are ready to put up a strong fight against a tough opponent.

Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Coache’s View

Sergio Lobera: Focus on Three Points, Not Overconfidence!

“The most important thing for us, as always, is to get the three points against any opponent and to continue improving. That is our target in this game as well. We are going to play against our opponent with full focus. If we play with overconfidence, it can make things difficult for us during certain moments of the game, and that should not happen.”

Mehrajuddin Wadoo: Prepared to Challenge a Strong Opponent!

“All the players are working very hard in training sessions and carrying that effort into the games as well. We are looking forward to a good match against Mohun Bagan SG. They are a strong team, but I believe we are ready to put up a good fight.”
