Odisha FC’s Playoff Hopes Hang by a Thread After Goalless Draw Against Mohammedan SC in ISL 2024-25

Odisha FC and Mohammedan SC ended their Indian Super League fixture goalless tonight at the Kalinga Stadium. With this result, Odisha earned one point, bringing their total to 30 from 23 matches, with just one game left to play. They currently sit in 7th place on the points table, making their chances of securing a top-six spot difficult. Their hopes are now hanging by a thread, as they must rely on the results of other teams.

In the first half, Odisha FC dominated possession, while Mohammedan SC failed to register a single shot on target but defended well. In the 4th minute, Raynier Fernandes had a chance from the center of the box after receiving a pass from Rahim Ali, but his shot went too high. Both teams failed to create any threats for each other in the first half.

In the second half, Mohammedan SC created some effective goal-bound moves but ended up finishing the match without finding the net. In the 48th minute, Manvir Saini had a close-range chance to score, but Amrinder blocked his shot. In the 69th minute, Mohammedan had their best opportunity of the match when Franca made a run, cut past his marker, and went inside the box. However, in a one-on-one situation, he unleashed a shot that went wide.

In the 72nd minute, Gama committed a foul on Remsanga at the left edge of the box, earning a free kick. Alexsis took the free kick, but his curling shot hit the human wall. Four minutes later, Alexsis created another goal-bound move from the left. From close range, he unleashed a shot, but Thoiba intercepted the ball, which then hit the post. The rebound fell to Kasimov, but his shot went over the crossbar.

In the 89th minute, Odisha launched an attack. From the right, Amay Ranawade sent the ball inside the box for Isac Ratle, who took a one-touch shot, but the ball went just over the post closely. However, in the second half, Mohammedan SC created various goal-bound moves. In the last quarter, Odisha regained ball possession and tried to score, but the scoreboard remained untouched until the final whistle for the both.

Mohammedan’s hopes of a top-six finish ended long ago, as their maiden ISL season has not been smooth and positive, and they remain at the bottom of the table. However, with this draw, Odisha FC’s chances of securing a top-six spot have significantly diminished, as this match was crucial for them to win.
