Kolkata, December 20: North Bengal United FC registered a composed 2–0 victory over Burdwan Blasters FC in their Bengal Super League encounter at the Bolpur Ground on Saturday afternoon, producing their second win of the campaign with clinical finishing and a solid defensive display.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Sanju Santra made full use of a long through ball. Timing his run perfectly, Santa capitalised on the chance and unleashed a powerful finish to put North Bengal United FC ahead, giving his side a 1–0 lead.
Burdwan Blasters tried to respond quickly and showed intent in the 34th minute. Kwasi gathered the ball and fired in a grounded shot which took a deflection, but the Blasters managed to collect the rebound. However, North Bengal United’s goalkeeper remained alert and produced a fine save on the second attempt, denying Burdwan a crucial equaliser and keeping his team in control.
After the break, Burdwan Blasters continued to search for a way back into the game. In the 55th minute, David Motla entered the box from the right and opted to take the shot himself despite teammate Rudra Tudu being well-positioned. His close-range effort was once again thwarted by the North Bengal United FC keeper, who stood tall to preserve the lead.
The decisive moment arrived in the 61st minute. David Motla made amends for his earlier misses by doubling North Bengal United FC’s advantage, he struck a precise grounded shot that found the back of the net, effectively sealing the contest.
With a two-goal cushion, North Bengal United FC managed the remainder of the match with maturity, limiting Burdwan Blasters’ attacking threats and seeing out the game comfortably. The win at Bolpur strengthens North Bengal United FC’s position in the Bengal Super League, while Burdwan Blasters FC will look to regroup and improve their finishing in the matches ahead.
