Mumbai City made a second-half comeback to snatch a point from Mohun Bagan SG, making the score 2-2 in the dying moments at Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday evening. Mumbai City now needs only three more points to secure a spot in the top six in the ongoing Indian Super League. The Shield champions now have 55 points in total, with one match remaining.
FIRST HALF SCENARIO:
From the kick-off, Mumbai City FC started displaying their attacking intent, but the Mohun Bagan SG defense was hard to break. In the 32nd minute, Maclaren gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead. In the 42nd minute, Dimitrios Petratos made it 2-0. From the left, Liston entered the box and unleashed a shot, which Lachenpa punched out. The rebound fell to Dimi inside the box, who placed the ball into the net.
SECOND HALF SCENARIO:
In the 57th minute, from an inch-perfect corner kick, Toral headed the ball into the net to reduce the gap on the scoreboard for Mumbai City. Just one minute later, in the 58th minute, Vikram Pratap was sent off the field after attempting an illicit foul on Subhasish and receiving his second yellow card of the match.
Mumbai City launched numerous attacks in the second half. In the 88th minute, Tom Aldred fouled Ayush Chhikara. Following that free kick, Nathan Rodrigues’ header from the right side of the six-yard box found the center of the net, making it 2-2 for the Islanders.
With a maximum of 60% ball possession and an attacking approach, Mumbai City ended their fixtures against Mohun Bagan, attempting 19 shots, 8 of which were on target. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan maintained their defense, except for conceding two goals. This ended their long six-match clean sheet streak.
