A GOLAZO FROM COLACO SEALED THE DEAL FOR MOHUN BAGAN SG.
A second-half strike from Mohun Bagan SG secured all three points in tonight’s ISL fixture against Bengaluru FC, following two consecutive draws, at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. In front of nearly 42,000 fans, Mariners Base Camp unveiled one of Asia’s largest handmade tifos before the kickoff, glorifying their club’s history and significance.
A deliberate footballing display in the first half saw the visitors maintain possession-based play throughout, with 69% ball possession. Within nine minutes of the match, Suresh Singh had a chance and took a long shot, but it was too high and went over the bar.
In the 26th minute, Greg Stewart passed the ball to Maclaren, who unleashed a left-footed shot from inside the box, but it was blocked. In the 38th minute, Liston Colaco’s long shot from the left was caught by Gurpreet. Three minutes later, Stewart won a free-kick but failed to open the net for the Mariners.
In the final minute of additional time, at 45+2nd minute Bengaluru FC had their best chance of the half. Sunil Chhetri received the ball on the left side of the box and placed a ground shot toward the near post, but it went wide by just inches.
Mohun Bagan SG resumed the second half with an attacking pace. In the 48th minute, from the right, Manvir Singh passed the ball to Maclaren in the six-yard box. However, from that close range, Maclaren couldn’t make proper contact with the ball. In the 56th minute, Bengaluru created a chance of their own. From the right side, Roshan sent a high ball into the box, and Edgar attempted a header, but it went wide over the crossbar.
Before entering the final quarter of the match, a strike from the defending shield champions changed the momentum of the game. In the 74th minute, from outside the middle of the box, Liston took a stunning long-range shot into the back of the net. However, in additional time, at the 90+4th minute, Rahul Bheke’s close header failed to secure a single point as it went over the crossbar.

With that win, Mohun Bagan SG tightened their position at the top with 40 points from 18 matches, while Bengaluru stayed in 4th place with 28 points from 18 matches.
NEXT FIXTURES: Mohun bagan SG have their next match against Mohammedan SC on February 1. Bengaluru FC will face Punjab FC on that same date.
