Mohun Bagan SG Held to 0-0 Draw by George Telegraph in CFL 2025 Clash

Kolkata, July 11: In the ongoing Calcutta Football League, Mohun Bagan SG and George Telegraph played out a goalless draw at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium on Friday.

The opening half was marked by a lack of rhythm from both sides, with the game contested in the midfield. Mohun Bagan SG attempted to take control, launching several attacks and delivering multiple crosses into the box. However, none of their efforts were on target or carried any real threat, as George Telegraph’s goalkeeper, Rakesh Bahadur, confidently dealt with every delivery.

On the other end, George Telegraph tried to break on the counter but failed to create anything meaningful. While Mohun Bagan SG showed attacking intent, many of their crosses lacked purpose and failed to trouble the defense. Overall, the first half remained goalless with neither side able to carve out a clear chance.

In the second half, the tone of the match remained unchanged, but the strategies shifted noticeably. George Telegraph restructured their setup, lining up with seven players in defense, clearly aiming to protect their clean sheet and secure at least a point. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan SG continued to push forward with attacking football. In the 49th minute, following a back pass from Lewaan Casthanha, Shibam Munda entered the box from the right corner, cut past George defenders, and took a shot, but it went over the crossbar.

As the match approached the final minutes, George Telegraph goalkeeper Rakesh Bahadur faced increasing pressure but remained alert and composed. In the 80th minute, George Telegraph had a rare opportunity when they earned a free-kick from the left corner outside the box. Akash Das stepped up to take it, but his curling effort hit the crossbar.

In the additional time, at the 90+3rd minute, Mohun Bagan SG had what was possibly the best chance of the match to break the deadlock. Substitute Adil Abdullah received the ball and entered the box in a one-on-one situation. He unleashed a shot, but Rakesh Bahadur came off his line and threw his body forward to make a crucial save, preserving the clean sheet.

The match ended in a goalless 0-0 draw, with neither side able to find a breakthrough despite late chances. Mohun Bagan SG now stands with 7 points from 4 matches, while George Telegraph earned a hard-fought point, taking their tally to 4 points from as many games.

In the other fixtures of the Calcutta Football League today, Kalighat Sports Lovers secured a 2-0 win over Railway FC, while BSS Sporting sealed a 2-1 victory over Measurers Club.
