Champions Twice: Mohun Bagan SG Paint the Indian Super League! Shield and Cup in One Sweep!
Mohun Bagan SG hit the target to complete the double! In the Indian Super League 2024–25 Grand Final, Mohun Bagan SG beat Bengaluru FC 2–1 to etch their name on the cup tonight at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.Bengaluru FC took the lead first, however, the Green and Maroon roared back to capitalize on the scoreboard and the championship.
Within the kick-off, Mohun Bagan SG started playing attacking football. In the 9th minute, from a goal-bound move from the six-yard box, Maclaren attempted a square pass towards the net, which Gurpreet saved but didn’t make a clearance. The ball found Cummings, however, from that close range, Cummings failed to make contact with the ball.
After the first quarter, Bengaluru FC picked up the game’s rhythm. In the 19th minute, from Noguera’s corner, Sunil Chhetri attempted an on-target header which Subhasish blocked on the goal line, and Vishal gripped the rebound. With a maximum of 65% ball possession and 10 shots, two of them on target, Bengaluru spread pressure in the first half. Mohun Bagan SG took only three shots, one of which was on target, but defended mindfully.
At the start of the second half, in the 47th minute, Cummings sent an inch-perfect cross from the left to Manvir, but Manvir’s header went wide. Within two minutes, due to a defensive miscommunication by Mohun Bagan SG, Bengaluru FC took the lead. The Blues launched an attack, Ryan Williams attempted a shot which Alberto tried to clear, but the ball went inside the net.

After taking the lead, the Blues’ game style became more confident, but the lead didn’t last long. To level the score, Mohun Bagan SG launched several attacks. In the 69th minute, Cummings sent a cross from the left into the box which Maclaren was just about to receive. At that moment, Chinglensana made contact with the ball using his hand, awarding a penalty to them. From that penalty, Cummings equalised the score to 1–1.

After the equaliser, Mohun Bagan SG found their rhythm and started applying attacking pressure, but the Blues’ defenders were alert. The match headed into extra time as neither team found their second goal.
Early in extra time, in the 96th minute, Mohun Bagan SG took the lead. Greg Stewart passed the ball to Maclaren, from the right inside the box, Maclaren slotted the ball between the keeper’s feet into the net. And that changed the momentum of the game, as Bengaluru FC seemed unrhythmic and a bit off-colour.

In the strong head-to-head final clash, which was worth the battle, Mohun Bagan SG ultimately moved ahead with a winning performance and secured their historic double championships. They became the second team to win both the Shield and the Cup in a single season in ISL history, the first being Mumbai City FC, who held the record previously.
With a glorious season that led the Blues to the final and a hard-fought battle for the trophy, Bengaluru FC emerged as the silver medalists of the ISL 2024–25. Meanwhile, after a historic and commendable campaign, Mohun Bagan SG left the field with the gold medal, the Shield, and the trophy. And with that, the ISL 2024–25 season wrapped up its thrilling battle.
