Mohun Bagan SG stepped into the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 semi-final after beating Kerala Blasters FC 2-1 on April 26 at the Kalinga Stadium. Two strikes in each half sealed the semi-final spot for them. With that loss, Kerala Blasters FC got knocked out of the Super Cup, bringing their season to an end. And with a new match squad but displaying their old dominance, Mohun Bagan SG kicked off their Super Cup 2025 campaign and moved forward.
The game began at a slow pace, as by the 21st minute neither side had attempted a shot. However, in the very next minute, in the 22nd minute, Sahal Abdul Samad gave the Mariners the lead from a goalbound attack. From the right, Salahudeen Adnan sent a precise low cross into the box, which Sahal effortlessly chipped over the keeper into the net.

In the 29th minute, from a quick counter-attack, Noah unleashed a long, defense-splitting, powerful shot towards the net, but Dheeraj Singh caught the ball. In the 38th minute, from the right, Hormipam sent in a cross that almost went into the net as its direction seemed goal-bound, but again Dheeraj Singh saved it to preserve Mohun Bagan’s lead. After receiving the ball from captain Deepak Tangri, Ashique made a run down the left and sent the ball into the box, where Suhail was perfectly positioned to send it into the net. Kerala Blasters were playing attacking football, creating several goalbound moves, but each time they were denied by the Mohun Bagan defense. Mohun Bagan SG were launching counter-attacks, which seemed dangerous for their opponents.

In the 86th minute, from the right, Peprah placed the ball inside the box, but before Jimenez could attempt a shot, Dipendu Biswas intercepted the ball and cleared the threat. In additional time, in the 90+2nd minute, from a counter-attack, Kerala Blasters almost broke their deadlock. From the left flank, Noah made a run and passed the ball to Peprah inside the box. Peprah fell down but quickly got back up and took a shot, which the keeper punched away. The rebound fell to Ebindas, who attempted another shot, but Amandeep made a goal-line clearance.
However, one minute later, from a forward through ball by Jimenez, Shreekuttan broke the deadlock. But with the final whistle, Mohun Bagan SG ended the match with a 2-1 lead.
Under head coach Bastob Roy, Mohun Bagan SG rotated their squad for the Super Cup, featuring young players and many who hadn’t received much playing time this season. Under the leadership of Deepak Tangri, the new-look squad showed a dominating performance to book their spot in the semi-finals.
