Champions rise again! Mohun Bagan SG storm into the ISL 2024-25 semi-finals with a 3-2 win over the Red Miners!
Before the final whistle, the successful defending league shield champions Mohun Bagan changed the direction of the game to reach the ISL 2024-25 final for the second consecutive time. In the second leg of the semi-final, Mohun Bagan SG defeated Jamshedpur FC with a 3-2 aggregate score tonight at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
From the kickoff, Mohun Bagan displayed intense attacking play, while Jamshedpur FC defended all out. In the 16th minute, Cummings almost got an open chance, but from inside the box, he sent the ball over the crossbar. Within three minutes, from a goal-bound move, Ashish Rai’s shot was saved by Albino Gomes. From that corner, Mohun Bagan SG created two more golden chances. Tom Aldred attempted a shot from the corner, which Albino fist-ed out. The rebound fell to Maclaren, but Sourav Das made a goal-line save of Maclaren’s shot.
In the first half, Mohun Bagan attempted 17 shots, 7 of which were on target, and created several goal-bound moves. Jason Cummings, all alone, created more than five effective goal-bound moves. However, the visitors defended very mindfully to protect their advantage. The first 45 minutes, Jamshedpur FC spent most of their time in their own half.
At the start of the second half at 49th minute, the Red Miners made a defensive lapse. Mohun Bagan sent the ball into the box from a corner kick, where Pronoy Haldar committed a handball, awarding them a penalty. Cummings took the penalty and leveled the score for the Mariners (2-2 aggregate).

After that goal, the game’s tempo slowed down, and both teams often seemed to be in the midfield. However, Mohun Bagan did not stop their attacking storms. Before the last quarter, Mohun Bagan had attempted 30 shots. As time went on, Jamshedpur FC launched some counterattacks. As regulation time ended, it seemed to be heading into extra time, but a moment turned up for Mohun Bagan SG when Apuia Ralte found the net in the dying moments, making the score 2-0 (3-2 aggregate).
“In the 90+4th minute, Apuia received the ball from Anirudh Thapa and unleashed a stunning long-range shot, which Albino failed to stop. At the same time, he failed to save their dream goal for the Indian Super League final match.
The 58,130 admirers went crazy when Mohun Bagan’s midfield maestro found the net and booked their spot in the ISL final for the second consecutive time. In the first leg, Jamshedpur FC held on to a 2-1 advantage in the dying moments. Tonight, with Apuia’s last-minute goal and a 3-2 aggregate score, the Red Miners wrapped up their ISL 2024-25 season after having a stunning campaign under the one and only Indian head coach, Khalid Jamil.

On April 12, the ISL 2024-25 grand final will be held between Mohun Bagan SG and Bengaluru FC.
