Jose Molina’s game-changing substitute duo scored the only goal for Mohun Bagan SG, which was enough to secure the sixth win for the Mariners against Chennaiyin FC, tonight in the, Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
Both teams started the match at a slow pace. In the first 20 minutes, both focused on possession-based football and did not attempt a single shot on goal. In the 22nd minute, Chennaiyin FC launched an attack from the left, with Irfan Yadwad delivering a cross towards the far post. However, before their attempt could materialize, Alberto cleared the ball away.
For the hosts, Manvir Singh launched a goal-bound move, in the 27th minute, down the right flank, Manvir entered the box and passed the ball for Dimi. However, before Dimi could attempt a shot, Chennaiyin’s defense intercepted and cleared it. The attack came dangerously close to the goal line.
The second half began with sluggish play. In the 83rd minute, Mohun Bagan SG had a prime opportunity to open the scoring. From the left flank, Manvir received a cross, which he chested down to substitute Cummings. Cummings took a shot, but keeper Nawaz easily gathered the ball in his safe hands.
Just as head coach Jose Molina made his five substitutions, Greg Stewart entered the field in the 85th minute and changed the momentum of the game. In the very next minute, he took a shot from outside the left of the box, which deflected to the far post.
Mohun Bagan finds the rebound, but the away side manages to clear the ball outside the box. Irfan Yadwad miss passes to Stewart, who intercepts and sends an aerial ball into the box, where Cummings puts it into the back of the net.

In additional time, at the 90+3rd minute, Manvir made a run down the right flank and passed the ball to Sahal Samad, who failed to convert from close to the goal line. Just a minute later, Cummings found the back of the net again, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
With that win, Mohun Bagan SG moved to the top of the table again with 20 points from 9 matches, once again leaving Bengaluru FC behind. Captain Subhasis Bose conceded his fourth yellow card today. As a result, he will miss the next fixtures of Mohun Bagan SG with NorthEast United FC
