Indian Super League debutant Mohammedan SC secured their first win in their first away match against Chennaiyin FC. The Black and White Brigade snatched three points at the Marena Arena on Thursday.
The Marena Machans kicked off the match with attacking force and began controlling the game with most of the ball possession. When Mohammedan SC went for a few counter-attacks, Chennaiyin FC’s defense didn’t look composed.
Taking advantage of a defensive lapse Mohammedan SC got a goal scoring chance, in the 33rd minute, Dilliana headed the ball towards their keeper Samik. However, before Samik’s attempt, Alexis won the ball in a one-on-one situation and made a run into the box. He took a shot, but it was off-target and deflected off the post. Possibly that was the first accurate goal bound move for them.
Within three minutes, Mohammedan SC capitalized on another defensive lapse to change the scoreline. From the right side, Dilliana passed the ball to their keeper, but Remsanga Fanai made a quick run from behind, took control of the ball, and, without any blunders, swiftly placed it into the net as the keeper was out of position.

In the second half, Chennaiyin FC became distraught trying to get back into the game. They started dominating and attempted various shots. In the 64th minute, the Marina Machans got a free kick from midfield. An aerial ball came into the box, but Adinga headed it out. With the keeper, Padam Chhetri, off his line, it was a dangerous situation.
In the additional time, at 90+3rd minute Mohammedan SC was awarded a penalty after Laldinpuia fouled substitute player Manzoki inside the box. Kashimov asked Manzoki for the ball to take the penalty, but Manzoki refused, as he wanted take the shot himself. Manzoki took the penalty, but his shot went over the bar, and as a result, they couldn’t took the advantage.
In the seven minutes of added time, Chennaiyin FC began pressing high to equalize the score, but the Mohammedan defenders became very desperate to protect their lead. In the 90+5th minute, Chennaiyin created a potential goal-scoring chance from the edge of the six-yard box. One of the Marina Machans took a shot while Padam Chhetri was out of position, but Vanlalzuidika made a crucial goal-line save by heading the ball out.
The last quarter got crazy as both teams hurried to end the match with three points. It saw many goal bound moves, incredible saves, and determination. In the end with the 0-1 result, Mohammedan SC secured their first victory of the ongoing Indian Super League today.
